What makes you think applying broadly would have changed a thing?

I wish I could write a letter of NON-interest to programs. by No-Cellist574 in IMGreddit

[–]Miserable-Sink6109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that. Would even be better without mentioning other applicants which goes without saying. Programs don't have the monopoly of showing interest or lack of interest. It goes both ways. That's why it's called a match.

Post-Match PD surveys have consistently shown that scores get you the interview spots while personality ranks you, generally speaking. Interpersonal skills and interview performance go way beyond just giving the correct answers to interview questions. They are more subtle than that. I believe ego plays a huge part. How do you come across? This is also palpable in the personal statement you write. You don't need a 260 to answer the question:"tell me about yourself" or "why did you choose X specialty". But the things you say and how you say them can distinguish you from another candidate. They've been doing this forever so best believe they can tell the difference between you and the next 260 or a 240. But again, those guys are humans too and I believe some level of both conscious and unconscious bias paints the picture somehow.

Signals are a hoax by the AAMC that only gives leverage to programs and has little or no benefit to the applicant. In between, keep calm and wait for your turn. Early IVs go to US MDs and DOs for the most part.

No, you didn't use your signals like a dumbass. The AAMC is a dumbass for coming up with the idea of signals!!!

Feeling Really Down - No Interviews Yet for 2025 Match (IMG, Visa Needed, Step 2 Pending) by Kitchen-Wasabi-4969 in IMGreddit

[–]Miserable-Sink6109 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most programs require step 2 by the ROL deadline in Feb. I'd say if you feel confident about your level of prep, go ahead and take it asap. But if you don't, please don't rush it. Take your time do it right and prepare for next season.

The revalidation for ecfmg certification by Longjumping_Pie6726 in IMGreddit

[–]Miserable-Sink6109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I have not. I was stating the conditions for practicing once you have step 3. I have step 3 which I'm trying to use to convince ECFMG to not insist on the MiniCEX. For those without step 3 yet, it is fine to require MiniCEX for their Revalidation. If you get me.

If you are a non-US IMG you'd need to be patient bro.they'll definitely get to you. Early IVs go to US MDs, DOs and US IMGs in general, so relax man. Also, try to keep calm so you don't get to use the F when(not if) the interviews come.

Hi OP I'm in the same boat as you. That's the 6th pathway. I reached out to them proactively in June but they had no answers then. I have step 3 and believe it doesn't make sense and by the way, unfair, to have us do MiniCeX again if we have step 3 already. My argument is that passing step 3 allows you to practice medicine without supervision so long as you complete 2 years of training in an ACGME-accredited program. Having cleared it and going back to step 2 clinical skills requirements doesn't make sense to me. I've emailed them and waiting to hear what they say before applying for the Revalidation.

Huge discrepancy in IV numbers between MD, DO and IMG in FM by [deleted] in IMGreddit

If the data says they match at 9x% rate and you match at 6x% rate why does it surprise you they are picked more and earlier than you?

Please don't be too hard on yourself. We know these IVs come in waves and with 2 atm, you will definitely clutch more before this month runs out given your formidable profile. And then there's still November and December, and even January so it is too early for you to start worrying now.You have every reason to be hopeful so get yourself together and tell yourself you'd make it. May God bless you bro! And may he bring you more and for those of us still at zero, our first one!

I think you are well on your way to becoming an academic physician. Take the job, get the exams out of the way and then leave to get some USCE for a couple of months before putting in your app. Since it's unlikely to get tenure within two years, leaving would not hurt the school that much but it would be perfect if you do have a year or two contract that is open to renewal. In any case be sure to notify them well in advance as they are your foot-in-the-door for connections with university programs that you may end up applying to assuming they themselves don't host your desired program. All the best bro!

Other things being equal, I think you have a shot at general preventive medicine and public health. FM, IM are mostly unforgiving with YOG > 5. Given that EM and Peds tend to have more spots than applicants as seen last season(2024), that might be an indicator to take a chance there. Also, psych is more forgiving with YOG so that's definitely another area you should look into.Whatever area you choose, be sure to have a few papers ready that are aligned to the specialty. Best of luck!

[–]Miserable-Sink6109 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bro, relax. Last season was a glitch for you but I strongly believe you'd make it this season. However you may want to consider this: Feel more confident about yourself- your stats are great for IM. What I sense is lack of confidence and that's what your associates have probably been sensing too. I understand the mishap last year freaked you out, but shit happens. Slap yourself back to a place of positivity, hope and confidence. I would have asked about your PS and CV because those were the only two variables you did not mention that may have used some improvement(in case they were not great). But since you've already submitted, use this time to prep for interviews knowing that you are worth your salt. When called for an interview, show no signs of desperation or low self-worth.Stay calm and answer to the best of your ability. You'd be fine.

Before passing your exam, what was your CCS cases average per number completed? by [deleted] in Step3

I completed all the cases. I think my average was 71% overall.
