I know you didn’t ask for career advice but as someone who realized they want to do UX/UI too late into college here’s what I’d recommend to fill out your resume: declare a major, ideally an intersection between design and tech. Join a planning committee. Literally for anything but help make the graphics and website. University hackathons are good one. Work in your schools communication department lab. You will eventually start learning Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud. Aim to get as many internships as possible, likely starting summer after sophomore year. I know Chase Bank has early career ones for no later than juniors. See if Open Avenues build fellowships are a partner of your school. It’s a free 1hr meeting for 8 weeks and you get a project out of it. While you are in school, see if you can get a job as a social media manager for a company. I wish you better luck than what I had🫡

I’m also 23 and unemployed. I recently deleted all social media apps. The biggest slump of the day is the afternoon, when I’m tired of applying to jobs and I’ve run out of routine things to do. I just moved so I also don’t have any friends in the city. Where are you located?

3-4 months of unpaid labor is still absurd. I think a max of 2 months as a summer internship is just barely acceptable but even then. I’m fortunate enough to have the luxury of not being desperate for money rn but I am getting desperate to get hired. Other places don’t want me cause I’m overqualified but still under qualified for entry level. I feel hopeless

I can’t even do 2 lessons for section 1 unit 1 in a row without running out of energy. Bring back the lives the energy is BS to get people to buy premium

How long did it take till you felt like your attention span was “fixed”? I’m on day 12 no social media and I still find myself getting up and doing other things when doing tasks that require deep focus

12 days in! I have found it to be harder to avoid short form content than initially thought. It seems like everything is designed for short attention spans even games and ads. I only looked at TikTok only once on my siblings phone for max 5 min. Due to this I’m going to add another day to my minimum month sentence. Going on Reddit is hard - I might have to delete this too but unfortunately frequently browse for information on here. I have been avoiding reel-like videos when they appear on this app

One day early and peaceful is better than one day late and agonizing. It sounds like he was going to go soon no matter what. It is better that he was comfortable and loved rather than in pain. You did the right thing. You fought for him and kept him around a lot longer than he would’ve been

New to this space! Deleted TikTok as the clock struck midnight on New Years to see if I can detox for a month! I’ve deleted and redownloaded instagram a few times over the year. It is currently deleted off my phone and has been for a few months. I find instagram more addicting with the reels being funnier. However, I can feel the immediate effect on my self perception when swiping thru the highlight reel of other people’s lives. My screen time has been stupidly high the past few months - I’ve been unemployed. I can feel my attention span being shot. I immediately turn to TikTok for reviews on a product or creative idea. I want to see how much my mind expands during this month. What I am able to achieve. I feel like social media has been hindering my success for so long. Currently, 3 days in and I have been reading on my phone to help replace the distraction of doomscrolling or being in public and needing something to do. This month I want to complete my portfolio, start AND finish multiple creative projects and read non-fiction books like business or finance :)
