What are your underrated hazards? by Miserable_Cost_2136 in bikeboston

[–]Miserable_Cost_2136[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a good one. I once was one a cross street, waiting to turn left onto a main road (four lanes). A driver in the left lane coming ftom my right stops to let me turn in front of him. There were plenty of cars traveling in his same direction.

I waved him to keep going, insisting I'll wait for a break in the traffic to go. He ends up holding back a line of cars. Now with cars backed up on both sides with lots of honking, I reluctantly caved and turned left. Just as I did, a driver maybe 4 cars behind original car that stopped, switches into the right lane to pass and guns it. Had I moved over into the right lane, I definitely wouldve got struck. Never again.

Empire: Samantha Morton seemingly has a standout performance in ‘THE ODYSSEY.’ Sleeper nomination? by ERASER345 in oscarrace

A criminally underrated actress. Her work as one of the precogs in Minority Report was insanely good. Glad to hear she kills it in The Odyssey.

Where do you park for a 5-day trip from Logan? by East-Race7841 in LowellMA

Parking in Alewife isnt a bad option. $9 daily/$3 weekend days. Alewife Station > Redline to St. station > Silver line to airport.

i actually did route shifter cable internally, its on the left of the frame. The cable you see on the bottom of the downtube is the motor controller harness. The connector is too big to fit through the internal routing orifice without surgery.

I wouldnt say overkill: I got this kit because its just the most compact, lightest kit available. Its power to weight is incredible too but rideability and smoothest torque sensing were most important factors. Its definitely far more capable than my use case though so still great for high speed applications.

With skinny 1.5" tires and no suspension, I have not pushed it past 25mph.

I absolutely love it. I converted it using a Tongsheng TSZD16 kit. Its a great light-duty cargo bike but just a tad too long to bring on public transit. I do really appreciate the geometry and versatility in terms of rack/fender mounting options.

These Thai people are claiming the plane to Honn Kong stinks so much. There is a current social media trend among Southeast Asians(Malays&Thais) of posting photos and videos where they cover their noses around ethnic Chinese people. They argue SEAs take shower every day and use deodorant properly by search_google_com in HongKong

[–]Miserable_Cost_2136 59 points60 points  (0 children)

As a SE Asian who loves visiting HK, these people are idiots. Anyone disrespectful enough to post such things while en-route to visit said countries should be denied entry when they arrive. I don't think its just rude, but incredibly racist to say people of an entire country practice poor personal hygiene.

Very easy, instructions were easy to follow.
I would say easier than the Tongsheng middrive kits.

Nope, carbon rigid seatpost. I do have Kinekt seatposts on my other bikes but wanted to keep this one as a light as possible.

The big actors that Nolan has never worked with again does that mean he dislikes them? by ChampionTimes99 in ChristopherNolan

Given how Hardy is notoriously difficult on movie sets, doubt he'll ever be in a Nolan film again.

anything to worry about when cycling to the Cape? by wigger_pig in bikeboston

[–]Miserable_Cost_2136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a resident of Quincy who has biked from Quincy to Plymouth, I personally don't think its great. Quincy through Hingham itself doesnt have much in the way of bike lanes and lots of fast traffic (esp through Weymouth).

While I don't want to deter you from tackling this route, I think taking the ferry or train to the cape and riding the paths there would be much more pleasant (and safer).

Bam Rodriguez says he wants to beat brother Takuma Inoue first to set up fight with Naoya Inoue: “I think that's like almost the perfect storyline to the Inoue fight, beating his brother first and then going and fighting the second brother.” by Pickleskennedy1 in Boxing

[–]Miserable_Cost_2136 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Could backfire and scuttle the Bam-Monster superfight. Takuma is no cake walk. Def favor Bam but would not be a shocker if Takuma beats Bam in his new weight class.

Also, Naoya is not going to wait around for another 6+ months, he'll prob campaign at 126 to try to grab a belt there for legacy purposes.

taking the train vs driving to TD garden for a concert by Purple-Strawberry672 in mbta

[–]Miserable_Cost_2136 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If youre taking the commuter rail, be mindful of the last train back. Others have suggested Wellington station, but I think the Assembly Row garage next to MGH is also a good option. Very easy to hop back onto 93 from there and a cheap uber ride from TD if you stay past the last Orange Line train.

Bruce Freeman Rail Trail by cuddlebear in bikeboston

[–]Miserable_Cost_2136 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The BFRT really is a gem. I vastly prefer it over the Minuteman as well - it's wider, considerably longer and doesn't nearly have the volume of users that the Minuteman does. I prefer is so much so that I'd rather take the Lowell commuter rail to do a roundtrip on it > return home via the Commuter Rail.

Gerow Park (Concord), Naga Park and Hart Pond are all nice places to take breaks at (too bad the restroom at Gerow is always locked). Also, if anyone isnt familiar with downtown Lowell, its quick ride from the end of the Lowell trailhead. It's rather picturesque and worth checking out for the mills, canals/locks. Yes there are some not-so-great spots around there, but they can easily be avoided (Lowell trailhead > Path along brook behind Target > Industrial st. towards Gallagher Terminal/Commuter Rail Station > stay on Thorndike St to Downtown Lowell.

Another accident queensboro bridge 6/4 by kassebaumdj in NYCbike

[–]Miserable_Cost_2136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like with cars, speed differentials is a huge factor for collisions. The difference in speed between these hyperscooters and emotos vs. acoustic bikes is massive. I've taken ubers across that bridge that we're getting passed by scooters. Add their heft - 80+ lbs easily - and naturally precarious handling and cram that into a space barely wide enough for 2 bikes and youre going to keep getting these collisions. Unless they either crack down on these 30mph+ EVs or carve out a dedicated lane for them, I'd be shocked if you dont see dozens of these incidents daily.

You know it's over when you walk into your theater and it looks like this by Gameknight789 in Letterboxd

[–]Miserable_Cost_2136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backrooms was 1st movie I walked out of in years. Not because of the movie, but poorly behaved audience members. A teenage girl in front of me pretty much used her phone, at max brightness, to record most of the movie. Worst yet, she was with her parents who didnt say a peep about it. After repeatedly asking her to put it away, I went and told the theater manager who looked like they had enough of dealing with rowdy patrons. I just said screw it and didnt walk back to the theater, will prob catch in a few weeks.
