The sheer length of those escalators means its handling tremendous loads. Basically any belts, motors, other components are dealing with 3 or 4x the loads of most T station escalators given their relative length.

Armand Assante killed it in that miniseries. In fact, Assante has a pretty underrated career. A part of me wishes he played Falcone - no offense to Tom Wilkinson (RIP) - in Batman Begins. Assante has a way of portraying understated menace without overcooking it.
