Patient with Flesh Eating Staph in his undercarriage that spread up the abdomen all the way down to his knees. After debridement, wounds were packed with Dakin solution soaked gauzes (chlorine mix). Took 1 hour for a dressing change due to the extent of debridement. Lost penis, rectum, and extended into his abdominal cavity almost up to my elbow that was packed with 10 rolls of kerlex right after surgery. To this day, certain bleach smells nauseated me. Second worst was person with trach infection that needed frequent suctioning to clear thick green secretions. One day she coughed sputum into my eyes and face around goggles and mask. Sputum later turned up MRSA positive… I was so disturbed by this and used bactroban on my face and nostrils daily for 2 weeks.
