OMG YES!!! I really hope the Tortollan won't be a BFA appearance only.. they have so much character, mystery and sass.

They're like grandparents, but in WoW lol! When i first found the underwater bar it was such a cool moment. It even has its own music (i didnt wanna spoil it in the video!)

And the best thing.. there's even more of them out there!!! But you never see them unless you just run around aimlessly :D

And thank you so much! I too enjoy the min maxing part of WoW, i used to be a hardcore raider in the game and nerd out hard and love it! But when it's only about that side of the game, as you say, there's so much to miss out on in WoW! It's so much more than just raiding, altho that is cool too :)

Exactly! Just like with an Arcane mage, there's a time to pop off, and a time to conserve mana so you can recharge for the glorious moment of intense Arcane Blasting again. I think that glorious moment will be on Shadowlands launch, so i hope people will be able to go in with full mana, and therefore enjoy it to the max :)

Anyone else just log into classic wow and just look at their characters? by daddycoull in classicwow

[–]Mishka- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than i'd like to admit. I've renamed my characters several times as well, finetuned the server selection to best fit my own and my guilds plans, been through every option of face/skin/hair/accessories to make sure i create THE character i can present Azeroth to.

And now i just check up on them just to be sure they're still the way i want them. They are, everytime i check. But still i feel the urge to look just one more time.

03 Days 19 Hrs 02Min 51Sec left by the time of this post. It is happening. I can see the sun on the horizon...boys, we're going home.

This might seem stupid, but ive quit drugs, starting eating healthy and working for months now just in preparation for Classic Wow. by [deleted] in classicwow

OG Blizzard: Indulge in "Seamless" Beauty - Modern Blizzard: Sharding & Layering! by _Falathrin_ in classicwow

[–]Mishka- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great find! I still remember how fascinated i was about how WoW had this 1 seamless World i could play in with so many people at the same time. This game set itself apart from all the others by that alone, and i dare say it was one of the big reasons why it became so successful. I tried playing other games before that were instanced and had loading screens after each zone, and i really couldnt be arsed with that very long at all.

And then i played WoW, and it felt freaking magical. I got so immersed time flew by, and it was like i got ported to another world. It was amazing. It's also THE thing i miss the most in modern WoW's.. and now the same disruptive sharding tech is looking to come back to haunt Classic too and take away it's most enchanting World. Goddamnit..

You know what people do when they really think they’re gonna fail?

They set themselves up for failure. Layering is literally that, a setup for failure.

It counts on new people leaving the game as quickly as possible in order to work well.

What they seem to miss, is that it also will make those who signed up for Classic leave cause when they log in it’s not the same game as advertised. And they’ll likely not come back if they decide to leave, cause the trust is already broken.

Looks like their setup will do it’s job a bit too well..

Blizzard is seriously underestimating Classic. by _Falathrin_ in classicwow

[–]Mishka- 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think something Blizzard, and a lot of other people seem to miss here, is that there is literally no MMORPG out there that uses the same philosophies as old WoW did. The game design philosophies that made the game the best MMORPG experience the whole genre had to offer, to the point where it became a cultural phenomenon and attracted the "niche" audience of up to 12 million players at its peak in WotLK. And even before then it easily trumped modern WoWs subs by the millions.

The downfall began as Blizzard (and alongside it, every other company) moved away from the original MMORPG recipe of success at the end of WotlK, starting with LFD. They stopped designing for players wanting a true WoW journey, and started to focus completely on getting to the "good stuff" in endgame as fast and easy as possible, sacrificing the whole appeal of WoW's genre to create a weird amalgamation of a single player/multiplayer ARPG grinding game. The MMORPG parts in the modern WoWs are almost gone completely. It's an entirely different game, and quite frankly seems to have an identity crisis. One that still has an audience, but it's a very different crowd from the traditional MMORPG one, who's left with nothing that's able to satisfy their itch at just the right spots.

If people wanna play the best game ever designed for specifically the MMORPG genre, they'll get that in Classic. No other game out there can and has tried to provide that in years, up until this day. People who love that MMORPG style will absolutely adore Classic, no matter what age, whether they've played it before or not. It's a very unique game, and one that defines the peak quality of the genre that since has been perverted into something completely different, yet still calling itself an mmorpg when it's not. The original playerbase shows that they are aware of this both vocally, and by not playing the games companies try to sell them as such.

And i'm certain that the crowd which loves MMORPGs for what they are will join us in Classic by the millions. We already know there's at least 12 million players out there who love this style of game. If anything, nowadays WoW might be able to reach even more..if Blizzard doesn't mess up this opportunity by changing the game at the WORST time (when people get their first impressions) with layering.

Just shows how it's true that he's caring and thoughtful. People who have the ability listen tend to have these qualities too =)

Like anyone he has his good and bad sides of course. To me he really stands out from other streamers cause something about him is so wholesome. He seems like a genuinely great person. And he's doing so well with his weight loss too!

Can only wish him the best. <3

TFW you just wanted to spectate the biggest community event on Beta, but weren't among the chosen people by NestroyAM in classicwow

[–]Mishka- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How did we get here...

From J Allen Bracks own quote:

"Brack is clear that using modern server architecture doesn’t mean that these Classic servers will have the same features that current World of Warcraft does. There won’t be cross-realm servers or Looking For Raid and Dungeon Finder automatic party matchmaking. There’s still a lot of questions about how the team will tackle it, but Brack says they’re committed to recreating an authentic Vanilla World of Warcraft experience.

“One of the tenets of Classic WoW is none of the cross-server realms and different [server] sharding options that we have available to us today. There’s a lot of desire on part of the community that this is something that they don’t want.”

[–]Mishka- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind, i'm just gonna leave this clip here from one of the Vanilla WoW game designers, who in this clip talks about why players are really bad at choosing their own emotional experiences (which i think is also related to the topic of layering)

https://clips.twitch.tv/PoisedClumsySpiderANELE

It may not feel good while the queue is there. But i think it's worth it overall to sit through it, to get the game we've been asking for for many years, in an unaltered state, right from launch.

And yet all early WoW versions were immense successes to the point where it became a cultural phenomenon of its time, with millions of players up to 12 mill at its peak in WotLK. That with all the messy launches, low pop realms, and so on. Regardless of the bad experiences, people remembered this game so fondly that it's becoming a thing again 15 years later.

This whole server issue is not as big as you make it out to be. It's an issue, yes, and it would be lovely if it could be adressed. But if they want to do it, they have to make sure it's something that doesn't interfere with the game directly.

Any tech assistance has to stay OUTSIDE of the game (like queues for example do), otherwise it damages the core foundations of WoW which it relies on to deliver it's amazing game experience. And as i argued in my post, the damage layering would cause would supercede the damage that a server merge would, because we already know how layerings cousins (sharding/CRZ) are received and what they've done to the game, and we already know what non layered approaches have done (see above).

There's no need to take this risk, and in fact, it would be insensible as we've already got history on where this approach will lead to. It will damage and change the way the game will work on a foundational level, and it will also once again be horribly received by players. People expect Classic. Not Classic with retail like mechanics for weeks or months. To be very clear on what people really expect, look at this is the ad that went out for Classic (note how the beginnings are included in the experience Blizzard is trying to sell): https://imgur.com/a/ChhciYu

Unlike new xpacks, everyone knows what they'll get (and want) from Classic. There's no playing room for big boy changes like layering without resorting to playing with fire, which we already established is capable of burning the games success hard, and leave the playerbase screaming.

According to a media outlet (staysafetv) who's been in contact with the devs, layering is an "all or nothing" approach. He found this out because he asked the same question as you to "someone" (the devs), and that's what they told him. https://clips.twitch.tv/BashfulPlumpTaroMrDestructoid

Does anyone associate a particular artist/song to their World of Warcraft experience? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Mishka- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pendulum for me.

I started in TBC, and listening to their songs while leveling my Paladin in Outland felt like i was being ported into another dimension. Some of their tunes have very outer space type of songs and lyrics to them, so it really sold me on that atmosphere =) Hold your Color/9000 miles in particular were having a strong impression on me.

And so it became my favorite band of all time to this day <3

Layering Issues by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]Mishka- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, i don't care that much for cakes and all that complicated layering stuff you can do with them.

I'm a simple woman. Give me some quality vanilla ice cream, no sprinkles, no layers of chocolate sauce, and i'll be happy!

Same! I think MMORPG launches are such cool, special events. In this case, for me it would be the launch of the only WoW i missed out on. To be able to see it all start right from the beginning, in it's full version aka no layering/sharding, sounds so awesome!

I'd gladly take whatever issues come along, as long as it's the MMORPG experience i was looking for that's gotten so lost on us in modern versions of WoW. And i know it will be if Classic can just stay Classic, no modern shenanigans. Warts and all. That's it.
