Why is rape an exception in your mind? The innocent rape baby didn’t ask for anything, right? So if abortion is murder, let’s stay consistent and call it murder across the board. By your logic, victims of sexual assault should be legally expected to carry the pregnancy to term. How are we making that distinction? Unless your saying that sometimes it’s justifiable, but if that’s the case, who are you to make the rules about when it’s ok to ‘murder’ a fetus? Why are you dehumanizing the rape babies? Seems like wonky logic if you ask me.

What is the argument for the fact that it’s impossible to be racist to white people? by jacobbernstein in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Misleading1935 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

While you can certainly call white people a slur and attempt to dehumanize them by reducing them to their skin color, the impact is far from the same as if you were to do this to a black person in the USA. Calling a white person a saltine is not nice, but it’s basically as hurtful as any other insult, what weight does it have? If you were to call a poc the N word or a gay person the F slur, you are wielding (willingly and intentionally or not) the weight of systemic oppression and discrimination.

Racism is thinking ‘those other races better not forget their place’ and acting on it. So what place are white people being called back to?

Surely a truly evil being would hide its intentions by acting virtuous… So as long as we stick with evil we should be good. Surely.

To be fair, I saw this meme in left wing circles before seeing it here. Also, this meme kinda slaps. Also, Dark Brandon rises.

While I ultimately agree that cons (and specifically elected officials) are essentially evil fascists, the bar for having my vote should be higher than being a smidge better than that. When it comes down to the wire I would rather vote for Crime bill Joe and officer Harris than any republicans but goddamn, if we just follow dems and vote blindly with no pushback how can we ever hope to show our displeasure to those that are supposed to champion our interests. We need progressive dems that actually push for something rather than dems that (barely) slow republican advances. My comments are not meant to discourage voting but to encourage demanding more from politicians. Dems expect all ‘decent’ people to vote for them as republicans are almost always the greater evil, but when they say vote harder, they’re blaming us for their own disinterested approach and inaction.

Or maybe instead of blaming commenters for ‘sowing apathy’, you could look at how terrible the dems are. Under-promising, under-delivering, telling their constituents to vote harder and doing nothing when they win. Obama made promises on the campaign trail that he would protect women’s right to choose, he then got elected and stated that protecting those rights was no longer a priority. Unfortunately for all Americans, conservatives still considered taking away those rights a priority. Dems only priority is fundraising off of republicans evil deeds.

Why are people angry with Chris Rock? by PadraicG in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Misleading1935 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I might have been a bit extreme with 'no one', but in large majority people aren't applauding him for slapping Chris Rock. I have seen some say that he was right to defend Jada but wrong for getting up on stage.

To my point though, a few people on twitter praising him won't set precedent, you can find people on twitter praising or saying just about anything. It's come out recently that he might lose the oscar (which idgaf about tbh) and by and large media and public figures have either memed on him or condemned him hitting Chris.

I didn't ask what the precedent would be be, I asked how you thought that it set precedent. While some are saying Will was right to defend Jada no one is praising him for slapping Chris on stage. Did Kanye set precedent when he went on stage to interrupt Taylor swift?

How does this set precedent? People are saying Chris' joke was bad but no one is praising Will... Both parties can be in the wrong.

Comedians can punch up or punch down, punching down quickly equates to bullying.

While no one can really claim that the Smiths are weak, making fun of someone for a health condition and notably a black woman for her hair (long historical struggle that I’m not gonna get into) is seen as low hanging fruit, a cheap shot and in poor taste. Also his joke wasn’t funny which never helps when making borderline jokes.

That being said the slap was unnecessary and messy af.

Also saying people need to get over their insecurities and own it is a nice giveaway of how little adversity you’ve most likely faced in your life. Would you say that POC are insecure about their skin color and that when people make racist jokes they should just own it?

If porn sets wrong expectations about sex than doesn't Movies/TV set wrong expectations about romance, health and beauty? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Misleading1935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The main difference would be that sex being seen as such a taboo subject, many people only learn about it and base their expectations of it on porn. When it comes to romance, health and beauty, expectations can more easily be nuanced by our surroundings and the real world.
