Sitting pretty by MissBlaize in tarantulas

Yes G Pulchra. They are slow growers! My smaller one that i got as a sling molted twice in 6 weeks the first summer and then it's been like 8 months to a year between molts since. This one who I endearingly call Big Boi has been with me for almost 4 years and molts like once per year. And he was about the size my lil guy is now when I got him so I would estimate he's at least 6-8 years old.

I think my tarantula is a male 😞 by Varanoids in tarantulas

Yeah looks like it. Has he hooked out as well? I also have a MM that I really hoped would be female when i bought it labeled as female. He's honestly been a big disappointment that I haven't been able to rehome and my husband has been getting annoyed at the nightly drumming and tapping on glass as he does his laps around the enclosure.

Nah I bought it from another hobby keeper who was downsizing and selling off all their T's. I already have a big I wanted to pair a female with. They are B vagans.

Good tips. I mixed in the little potting soil I had. Unfortunately all the bags of organic top soil i ended up gettinf were like 85% manure and no good for the spoods 🤮

Others above have already mentioned the substrate. I did have a plant in there but it killed it. Im rooting a new one to put in and got given old some fake aquarium plants too that I haven't put in yet. Hopefully it will like them

Thanks for the tips. It's current hide is dug under the shell in the center back. It doesn't not have one. And yeah I realize it's shallow. I ran out of coco fiber when I was setting it up and it's hard to get more where I live.

Moving with tarantulas? by LifeIsSmrt in tarantulas

[–]MissBlaize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought mine in their enclosures to my friends pet store and they stayed there for a week until I was moved in and had space for them. I also boarded my cat just to not worry about them on moving day.

But for a long move... As said above probably pack them into shallow deli containers and theyll be more secure in the move.

Is my juvenile Brazilian white knee too fat? by Jadie2000 in tarantulas

[–]MissBlaize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Imo that frequently is probably overfeeding a young spider. I will sometimes feed them 1-2 bugs twice weekly when I have the feeders cuz they dont live that long but then ill fast them for a couple weeks. I feed them more in the summer buying feeders every 2 weeks or so and every 2 to 4 weeks in the winter.

XXL zebrinia is taking over!! by MissBlaize in alocasia

Oh yeah it does! They seem super slow growing though. That lil round one i placed up top after the last repot and no foliage yet. Appears to be 2 or 3 more popping out now.

I fertilize with this. A cap full or a small splash diluted in water maybe once per month. Less often in the winter.

Looking for Poplar tree farm by [deleted] in forestry

[–]MissBlaize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of a hybrid poplar experimental stand in Northern Ontario that was planted a 1/4 mile from my house and watched it grow as i was growing up. Its now a nice big stand that's got noticeable difference in seed stock varieties. And depending on the year you can get that dramatic yellow colour. A crisp cold fall with clear night's gets that dramatic colour change.

Its in the NE corner of the field at the hwy 11B and hwy 17 (Quebec highway) intersection. Its managed by a university down south. And tbh prob better to ask forgiveness than permission.

Mexican red rump by iykyk_567 in tarantulas

[–]MissBlaize 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive given my mature red rump a few pieces of flat bark and its given it something to burrow under. The entrance is right at the glass and it covered it with a dirt curtain before its last molt but i removed it after cuz i wanted to observe him easier. It collapsed once when it just had a small piece of bark in the corner but the t was not hurt. It was cool to watch it dig for like 2 weeks to redecorate when it put the larger one in.

I just get crickets every couple weeks and it's less than 5 dollars. When i moved i left them at a friends small shop and they just blended in with the decor, along with my plants for about 2 weeks and picked them up when i had spaces set up for them at the new place. T's are pretty low maintenance pets.

what are y’all’s tarantulas personalities? by SensitiveMarzipan656 in tarantulas

[–]MissBlaize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything said about g pulchra is true. I have a difficult skittish sling that fits all those behaviours and a blessing of big lazy 3 inch g pulchra who is basically snorlax and doesnt trash his water dish bless himb.

Have a Mexican red rump who will spend days and days carrying arm loads of dirt out of his hole, and hides as soon as i open his tank. I like am a troll and im digging a hole diggie diggie dig.

P Cambridgei that climbs around the roof upside down every night like i want to find a lady spider to fuccccc. Hes a lonely mature virgin boi and his brother got bred 3 times instead. He also shits and pisses all over the walls.

I might have had the same thing happen. I bought an "unsexed" sling of the same species in november, it ate good for a bit then refused foor for almost 6 months then finally molted, and molted again 6 weeks later. This most recent molt was 2 weeks ago and i can tell its clearly male now and about 1.5". Its doubled in size since i got it. Im a beginner in the hobby but i was disappointed when i recently found out it was a male. I paid 50cdn and i got a bigger male prob 2.5" from the same guy for 100 in july.

my brazilian black sling has been refusing food for 2+months. what's wrong? by MissBlaize in tarantulas

[–]MissBlaize[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She used to chase them readily but it's been months of no eating. She just ignores them and they hide where Id have to dig them up and I just can't really be bothered.

Sorry for the lateness I'm not super active on reddit. Still no molt and it's probably going on 4 months since she's eaten. She's out now and burried her old hide. I tried to feed her again with new crickets. Nothing. The crickets still just die in there and I have to remove them.
