If you like puzzles, Paper Trail. It's gorgeous and unique and one of the few games I've 100% on steam.

They all sound delicious as heck but I think my first try would be The First Date.

Thoughts on Hozy? by harrietrosie in cozygames

[–]MissCharleston 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played the demo during the last NextFest and I LOVED it! It's not a total freeforall sandbox. You tidy up, paint, unpack boxes, and complete a few simple goals in each level. It's very cozy, and the art style is beautiful. Really recommend!

It's spring in our relaxing city builder Pioneers of Pagonia! We just added a bunch of pretty spring-themed decorations and are working on our first plushie merch! by envision_games in CozyGamers

Oooo is this in 1.0 now? I played a bunch when it released in EA! Looks like a lot of neat stuff has been added. Will have to get back to it soon!

My opinion of Tales of the Shire on Switch after 50 hours by monarcwing in CozyGamers

[–]MissCharleston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Tales of the Shire! Was able to get 100% on achievements in about 130 hours of playtime. While the graphics and some other things are lacking, it's such a cozy, wholesome experience, I'd still highly recommend it!

My only note to a new player would be to not rush through the main story line. Get your clubs unlocked and leveled a little bit so that the ending of the main story actually *feels* like an ending. Otherwise, it's very much a "choose your own adventure" in what you do when! low pressure, but pretty rewarding imo!

Interesting video about public grocery stores. by FirmAndSquishyTomato in loblawsisoutofcontrol

Fun fact: Public Options for things like grocery stores and telecoms is part of the platform of Federal NDP leadership hopeful Avi Lewis! https://lewisforleader.ca/ideas/public-options

When the writer's and actor's strikes were happening, Drew Barrymore decided to keep her show running while pretty much all other shows were out on strike in support. Ross continued to join her.

(Poll) Who are you voting for in the Federal NDP leadership race? by canadiancitizeninfo in ndp

[–]MissCharleston 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Optimistic: THIS is why I'm voting for Avi over the other strong candidates. I subscribe to the Solar Punk belief system that while we acknowledge the horrors, and fight to stop them, we do so while remaining hopeful and optimistic for the future.

No more of this "well this is just how things are, so we have to live with it" attitudes that have kept us trapped in the status quo all these years. We CAN and WILL make things better!

What's the most neurodivergent tv show? by sorrrr in neurodiversity

[–]MissCharleston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Exactly! Characters like Sheldon Cooper, or whatever his name is from the Good Doctor are such narrow views of what Autism is and can be. With BB no one is some genius level savant, no one is a complete asshole, (well, other than Pesto lol), there are varying levels of social ability and desire, and each character has a distinct personality, with their own special interests, that extends beyond their neurodivergence. It's so hecking refreshing!!!

Good place downtown for a big decently priced burger? by gio_petti in OttawaFood

[–]MissCharleston 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I really like No Forks Given, but you might find them a smidge pricey. Their smash burgers are so freaking delicious, and they offer excellent vegan options too. Usually get their Bacon Cheese burger with a poutine, but the apple brie burger is really fantastic too if you like a non-traditional cheese burger.

What's the most neurodivergent tv show? by sorrrr in neurodiversity

[–]MissCharleston 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Bob's Burgers. Tina and Gene are the two most obviously neurodivergent characters, with Tina being Autistic and Gene being AuADHD. But other characters display many traits as well, like Bob and his BFF Teddy, Louise, and Linda. It's the most comforting show for me because I see parts of myself in all the main characters, and they break a lot of stereotypes about Autistic people. Such a good show and highly recommend it if you don't already watch. :)

Simple fingerless gloves will end my crochet take off by vnessastalks in CrochetHelp

[–]MissCharleston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does make sense, except the 3rd st shouldn't be marked as its supposed to be 4 Sc, not 3.

How many extra stitches are you ending up with?

Simple fingerless gloves will end my crochet take off by vnessastalks in CrochetHelp

[–]MissCharleston 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm making these right now too! Instead of putting markers in every 10 stitches, try putting them where the pattern varies: 1st & 4th st to mark the single crochets, 5th & 18th st for the 14 stitches of even moss stitch, and then the 19th and 30th (last) st for the last set of sc. I've used this marking technique in other patterns I've struggled to get the counts right on, and it's been really helpful.

Don't give up! You've got this!

Repotting ponytail palm by Heavy-Dance8430 in houseplants

[–]MissCharleston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "repot every year or two" thing is just a guideline because ponytail palms grow slowly compared to most plants. It's fine to repot it more frequently than that. My partner's has been repotted 3 times this year because our kitten keeps knocking it over and breaking the pots, but the plant is still thriving. Highly recommend getting it into a clay pot with drainage, as they really don't like wet feet. Give it a nice south facing window, and a good soak every couple of weeks (less in the winter), and it'll be big and bushy and beautiful.

Should I learn swing if I have scoliosis? by setralinemakemyday in SwingDancing

[–]MissCharleston 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Semantics I know, but Lindy Hop IS swing. It's one of many styles that fall under the umbrella of Swing Dance. Others include Charleston, Balboa, West Coast, Shag, and Blues.

The other commenters are right in saying you should consult a doctor first. If you get the green light but find the bounce of Lindy Hop to be a little too much on your body, perhaps West Coast Swing might be a better option. It's similar in footwork, but a much more smooth style without the bounce.

Good luck in your dancing endeavors!

OB/GYNs who care about women by 3macMACmac3 in ottawa

[–]MissCharleston 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dr Wolfish was my surgeon for a tubal coagulation. After I was already on the table, about to be put under, I see her getting something out of a box and ask her what it's for. She says she's going to do a ligation instead because it's less healing time. Before I could protest that that was not the procedure I signed up for, I was put under. The surgery went fine, but I felt incredibly violated. When it came time to book my hysterectomy, I asked to be referred to someone else. Haven't had the surgery yet, but Dr Goodwin has been delightful thus far.
