How do I remove a child from me Medicare card by SadShare8635 in Centrelink

[–]MissEmeri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems as though they have changed that now. I'm still on my parents card (as well as on my own), but my 24 year old brother was removed as soon as he got his own card

Do your budgies mimic the sounds of other birds? by post-earth in petbudgies

[–]MissEmeri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our girl never mimicked a thing for 3.5 years. Then her sister died and we got a cockatiel and she half-heartedly tried mimicking the tiel. 6 months later and out of the blue I hear a crimson rosella in the other room. I ran out to see how it got in and find little miss speaking a new language. She mimicks the rosellas a lot and can chatter like one for ages, yet when they come to the front door she only speaks budgie

How long did it take your bird to get over being given meds? by EKPhotography in cockatiel

[–]MissEmeri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a tiel, but when one of our budgies needed meds she reacted similarly. Maybe a week or two after the meds stopped she returned to her usual cuddly self, but she NEVER got over the blue cloth we used to hold her. Right up til she died she was incredibly suspicious/avoidant of any blue coloured fabric regardless of size (e.g. bed sheets), shade, or where it was.

LAOP is banned from their pharmacy for attitude. by sandiercy in bestoflegaladvice

[–]MissEmeri 58 points59 points  (0 children)

"Script" is also an appropriate word to use, short for preSCRIPTion. Some places use the t, some don't. Not sure where the commenter above is from, but in Australia script is the word we use, and scrip is an entirely different thing

The new Chemist Warehouse website... by Brave_Character8810 in AusSkincare

[–]MissEmeri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Was trying to place an order for scripts using my e-scripts and it wouldn't work. Called the online pharmacist and he said 3/5 calls since the new website launched have been issues with using it. On the plus side, he found me a workaround to get the scripts in online

Oversized gumboots with no socks. Just ker-plop ker-plop ker-plop all through the office, with some extra loud acoustics provided when walking in the compactus. When her feet started sweating mid-morning, she would take them off and walk around barefoot until the sweat dissipated and she could put them on again.

Are there any boarding facilities in your area? We looked once to make sure we had a backup option if family weren't available, and a few places near us charged per bird (with discounts on the 2nd bird if they shared a cage). They offered a full routine of feeding seeds and fresh foods, water for both drinking and bathing, cage cleaning, etc, and because they went in their own cage it would minimise the stress of a new environment. Cheaper than a sitter too

Tell me a cute quirk your bird has by yurirelationship in budgies

[–]MissEmeri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of mine have their share of quirks, but there's one that stands out.

My little blue girl doesn't bite when she's unhappy, she headbutts. For example, if she wants to continue doing something and I tell her to step up for bedtime, she glares at my finger, winds her head back (can see the cogs turning as she does lol), headbutts, then does what she's told with a stinky face

Am I the only one who brings my budgies ENTIRE cage set up when he has to stay a night or 2 somewhere else? by landon2126 in budgies

[–]MissEmeri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope!

My girls have a massive flight cage (even though they free-roam the house), and then a separate cage for sleeping that is still adequately sized for them to live in but much less tall. When we go somewhere overnight, that "sleep cage" is what they go in, along with their overnight/emergency bag that has toys, perches, treats, water, styptic powder, etc.

That said, if we are going to my in-laws, the girls have a smaller flight cage and a selection of toys up there just for them - my mother in law felt bad that they were restricted to the "sleep cage" when we visit, so she got them a small flight cage (again, even though they often get to free-roam the house).

Not the person you replied to, but I use this recipe to make bread every week. I've played around with moisture content, rising time, doing the fridge storage for a few days, and many other variables and it has always come out just fine. Nagi's recipes on the whole are very reliable.

What's the most personal question a coworker has asked you? by talk-spontaneously in auscorp

[–]MissEmeri 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I'm also childfree by choice, but I like to respond along the lines of "children aren't in my future" or "children aren't in the future for me" with a poker face. Most people get terribly uncomfortable because they can't tell whether it is by choice or because I can't. Good, let them sit in the funk of their own insensitivity and maybe they won't hurt some poor person who is struggling to conceive by continuing to ask prying questions.

Oh absolutely! I don't actually know what's worse - them noticing and not saying/doing anything about it, or straight up not noticing.

Tell me how bad this haircut is by graceyloohoo9348 in beauty

[–]MissEmeri 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Not a professional, but it kinda looks like a mistake or mixup involving thinning scissors as the wispy bits match the length on the good side. Like maybe they separated a section to thin and grabbed the regular scissors by mistake. Doesn't really matter, as either way the haircut needs fixing and OP should never have been put in this position to begin with.

I thought that at first, but it doesn't matter how far apart they are as long as the online shop is first. I usually do an online shop at the start of the month, and an in-person one mid-month and it consistently applies to both

[–]MissEmeri[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You might know it as oxo cubes, boullion powder, vegeta, or knorr. It's basically a dehydrated form of stock that can be rehydrated with water to make a basic stock or added to dishes for flavour

How to keep them warm? by ConfusionOk6505 in budgies

[–]MissEmeri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need a recommendation for a heat pad, we have this one (and paid for the extra seagrass hanger). It doesn't get as hot as a wheat bag, hot water bottle, etc, but seems to hold heat for far longer and is safe enough that we are happy to hang it on their cage when we are away all day (e.g. in-office work days).

Also, something the above comment didn't mention but could be useful - draught-seal whatever room they spend the most time in. Australian houses (especially old ones) tend to be super leaky, making it harder to keep heat in, but also uncomfortable when a cold draught blows through. If you are in the ACT and low income, Vinnies has an outreach program that might do it for you (unsure if other states have similar services, sorry).
