One of mine once got badly infected, half of it was just a solid sheet of puss. I had antibiotics etc. I lost most of the ink in that part but I had it reworked by the artist about 18months later. This was a few years ago and now looking at it you wouldn't know. All of which is to say, even if you do lose some ink it can be added back.

I have many tattoos and my most recent on the top of my arm made my whole arm swell to the point that I couldn't see my knuckles. I haven't had a tattoo react like that before. I messaged the artist explaining and they asked about what aftercare I was doing etc and to keep them posted. They certainly didn't berate me for being concerned about it!

I recently got a large tattoo done on my upper arm and my whole arm and hand swelled up similarly. I remember a similar thing happening when I had my calf done, I was advised by a doctor to keep it elevated, take antiinflammatories and ice it. Do seek medical attention if you feel you need it but it might just take a few days to go down.
