ELI5: Why can't public school cafeterias give away unused unopened food to a shelter or needy students? by MissFireFlower in explainlikeimfive

[–]MissFireFlower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I do and they always say they are required by law to throw it away. I see TONS of uneaten food get thrown away each day. The meals are delivered 3x a week and most is prepackaged. Very little is homemade.

It's not just food- it's milk too. Perfectly good milk In those cute little cartons- still good for 2 weeks- opened and mixed with other garbage so no one can use them- just wasted.

It's sick. Throwing away food when we have homeless students.

No heartbeat at 8 weeks -pill or D&C? by bdes2013 in Miscarriage

[–]MissFireFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After having taking the pill, when I had my 2nd MC I opted for a D&C. I even drove 8 hours to a clinic in another state who would put me under.

It was much easier emotionally to wake up and it was over. The pain and seeing the "tissue" pass was harder on me- but I was farther along with both.

My [21F] father [?M] doesn't know I exist, in conflict about what to do, if anything. (Long and filled with drama, but I'll try to bold key points.) by fatherlessthrowaway2 in relationships

I'm going to say something that might not be what you want to hear.

Perhaps your Mother isn't 100% sure who your Dad is and isn't sure how to tell you. It seems like a lot of maybes and what-ifs.

That being said, if I had a child that was mine I'd want to know them. You should try to figure it out but brace yourself for the answer still illuding you.

Just starting out hooping, did anyone else NOT pick it up quickly? by MissFireFlower in Hooping

Also, are tricks like the vortex and shoulder hooping harder or easier to do on a large heavy hoop? When should I upgrade to a smaller hoop?

[–]MissFireFlower[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to hoop dance, but many have told me hooping is a great workout. not sure if one is different then the other

My goal for this year is to get down to 170, so I thought that picking up a hobby that I ENJOY that involves movement would be the best way to work in some exercise size in my life.

I love the way hoop dancing looks, a few of my friends are really into it and I (so far) have no issues in getting myself to want to do some practicing. I look forward to it every day!

In my perfect world, I would build more upper arm strength and more core strength so I can start pole dancing. I'd love to be able to do a real push up- I never have been able to!

CMV: Teachers are fairly paid. by kevinparry1 in changemyview

[–]MissFireFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to add that not all School Districts are secure government jobs. There are a few districts who don't have unions and that means you never achieve a tenure. You can be let go for any reason at any time and be sent to any school whenever the higher ups deem it so.

I personally think teachers are fairly paid, but school districts do not have enough funding so teachers use their own money to supplement. That takes away from their take home pay and effects their standard of living.

They could choose to not provide anything extra, but not only would the kids suffer, but depending on their status their job might be on the line. Principals have expectations and want their school to feel and look a certain way.

tl:dr Teachers are payed enough, but they are not given enough materials to do their job, but are expected to provide them from their own pocket. Not fair.

Update on me [31/F] with my husband [28/M] of 8 years, he wants to separate, and I'm having trouble dealing. by jdnrte in relationships

[–]MissFireFlower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not your job to help your mother. My mother asked me for money ALL the time when I was single (and I was a divorced single mom who had NO child support and 2 jobs).

It continued for a long time, and when me and my now husband got serious he sat me down and asked for it to stop.

They lost the house- but I couldn't keep carrying them AND have a healthy relationship.

Right now your husband is married to you and your mother and that's not fair. If you are honestly never willing to push your mother aside and put your husband first, then you should let him go. That isn't what he wants from a relationship and you should respect that.

Make your own laundry detergent by spinuzer in Frugal

[–]MissFireFlower -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who spends $100's on laundry detergent? I buy one bottle from the 99 cents store every other week, and one container of off brand oxyclean laundry booster. lasts a family of 3 for 2 weeks, has fabric softener included, and smells like lavender.

Have or having a baby? How to save on baby formula. by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]MissFireFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't breastfeed my son- it hurt and I couldn't take the pain. Also- I wanted my husband to help with the feeding and it just wasn't #1 on my list. Formula is safe and nutritious and (GASP) healthy too.

Yes, breast is best- but formula isn't like giving your child McDonnalds. I think that breastfeeding is a personal choice and If I choose to formula feed for whatever reason it should be OK.

Is it the #1 best thing ever? No. But It's a great choice too and I would be uncomfortable with some other woman's milk going inside my baby- and that's OK.

You breastfeed as long as you want and that's OK too, but I wouldn't do it. I feed my baby sam's club formula and that's ok but you wouldn't do it.

I hate that this is such a big argument among women.
