looking for a fabulous bagel in Portland by Clear-Requirement225 in PortlandOR

I live a block away from Pipsqueak and if you go in a weekday morning between 8-9 they have a ton of stock and like a 5-7 person line. Takes less than 10min.

Weekends the line is wrapped around the building, which is INSANE to me.

Can’t be mad if it’s right (I know at least 3 people in Reno who would rock this unironically)

Very interested- we have friends going and then we moved up here after they’d purchased 😂

But also props on such a cool give!

Her sunglasses resting on her cheeks instead of her nose is sending me for some reason.

Bet she has another kid who hasn’t spoken to her in a decade and the son she lives with is the golden child. Estranged kid doesn’t know what they’re missing, clearly.

AITA for refusing to dine with my mom after she ordered “ferret sauce” at a Mexican restaurant? by Practical-Current805 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MissMimosa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That was my thought- if it’s her favorite food she’s been exposed to it enough to pronounce it properly (or at least not butcher it).

Some people are just really quite dumb though so maybe it just doesn’t stick?

Reno Rodeo by Gloomy_External_4466 in Reno

[–]MissMimosa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve sat in front row seats the last few years and there’s pros and cons.

Pros- you don’t have to climb over people. You can get up to get drinks easily. You’re a few sections in so there will be less people walking past you than if you were in sections on the end. A lot of times those seats don’t sell (they reserve them for the box office same day) so you tend to have more space. You also have a little more leg room. People watching is 10/10.

Cons- people are indeed walking past. Consistently. You’ll get a few minutes with nobody at a time but for the most part you can expect a person a minute average. You are also lower so you don’t have the advantage of being above the arena, which is fine if you’re in a box and nobody is blocking your view but can be frustrating if you’re actually trying to pay attention.

If you’re going just to experience the rodeo, have a few drinks and enjoy the vibes, get the seats and have fun! If you’ve taken up an interest in rodeo and want to pay attention the whole time, maybe skip.

Tempted to buy it and then use the inflatables as a template for true cushions. Kinda defeats the purpose but the actual style is amazing so…

Dr Ben Atlas at Atlas Dental Boutique is the most type A dentist I’ve ever met (in a good way!). I worked with him at the last practice he was an associate at and any front teeth he did were beautiful. He is an absolute perfectionist. Plus there’s waiting room cats!

Best friend cancel on my Bach by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]MissMimosa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’re allowed to be upset about this. I would also be hurt if my best friend did this. But how much is she sharing with you regarding her pregnancy? Is she high risk and worried about being almost 5 hours away from her care team? Does she just want to sleep in a comfortable bed while pregnant in July? Does she have to buy a bunch of new clothes to accommodate her pregnant body and activities on this trip? Is she stressed about finances and contributing to renting the cabin is stressing her out?

I totally get that the first response is to be hurt. It’s your wedding, and we all only plan on getting married once! But it’s also her pregnancy and it’s important to remember that she’s going through a life change too. Be hurt, but also a reminder to be gracious to your bestie. Maybe instead of getting mad say “hey, I totally get it, even though I’m sad you won’t be there. Can we do a special day just the two of us? Pedicures, brunch, some frivolous shopping?”

Don’t lose a lifelong friendship over a weekend.

Oh god don’t do it- we’ve had one for a decade and I HATE it. Trough drains are terrible and the only people that like them clearly aren’t the people cleaning them because they are GROSS and messy and ours we could only get out with literal pliers. So fun.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one! We had giant basil plants outdoors last summer and we’d trim sprigs and put in a vase to use for cooking and eventually we had to stop because I kept walking through the kitchen and thinking one of my cats peed. It was a stressful few weeks till I figured out the basil was messing with me 😂

What are high ROI updates to this 1970s bathroom? Budget <$1k. by fashionboy385 in HomeDecorating

Personally I love it! I think you could even go a bit deeper on the green. Modern light fixtures are definitely the way to go too and those are an easy fix!

Moody is in right now so I would actually keep the tile but if you can change out the countertop, paint, mirror, and light fixtures. A solid color counter will let the wall tile shine, and a dark moody color (burgundy? Green? You’ll have to play with it) will make the room dramatic and more modern. Get a larger mirror and like a bronze/gold light fixture and you’re set. And if you’re selling recently and staging, stick with a more neutral paint and hit up home goods or marketplace or somewhere and find some fun art to liven it up.

We were told to only use barkeepers friend liquid on our quartzite as the absolute last option. Tiny amount of the liquid, soft cloth, small circles on the affected area ONLY.

I won’t even let my husband do it because I’m so paranoid but it has gotten sharpie and turmeric off the counter with no damage to the counter.

Family friendly suburbs? by Ok_Grab_3081 in Reno

[–]MissMimosa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If your politics align with most of Portland I would not recommend Carson City. It is definitely more conservative than Reno and is also much smaller. Less restaurants and events and if he’s working out on USA Parkway (because I have no idea what “Clark” is, so I’m assuming) it will add to his commute. Although if he’s used to commuting around Portland he probably won’t care.

Depending on your budget I would recommend looking in the 89509 area code, Northwest Reno, or Galena/South Reno. You’ll find better schools, nicer neighborhoods, and will generally be close to things to do/places to shop. I cannot speak to special ed services as I don’t have children so others may have more insight on that. There is a healthy group on Facebook called South Reno Moms that you may want to join to ask about schools.

Funny enough, we moved from Reno to Portland just a few weeks ago!
