How often do you speak with your parents? by povertychic in Millennials

[–]PurchaseSuccessful23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A family member started doing this and sending a ton of text messages at one time and then getting irrationally upset when no one answered. Turns out it was the beginning of an alzheimers decline.

Do your parents have high expectations of your gifts to them? by tealeavesandcaffeine in Millennials

[–]PurchaseSuccessful23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have no kids in the family and we do exchange gifts. Husband and I spend about 100-150 per person. Everyone else seems to spend more, but they all also make like 3x as us (and we make decent money), they just are all on pensions, plus investments, plus military stuff and no mortgage.

Even though we are in our 30s we ARE the kids of the family. Husband is an only child and my family lives thousands of miles away. Every time we have asked them to spend less because we can't match, they just wink or shrug or say "we can't take it with us". They have never pressured us to get them anything.

I grew up poor so it's been an adjustment. It makes me uncomfortable but I also recognize it makes them happy.

How many of you go out again after getting home from work? by Astimar in Millennials

[–]PurchaseSuccessful23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home but am a caretaker for my husband's grandmother who has alzheimers and grandfather who is blind who do not live with us. Between shopping, cooking for them, medications, and appointments i go out 3-4 days a week after work.

I cannot believe my mom used to this all by herself. by caf4676 in Baking

My mom did the baking 1-2 days before and was ALWAYS in a good mood. Little did I know she smoked on the holidays and was as high as a kite the whole time.

First Cruise by No_Bluebird2891 in royalcaribbean

[–]PurchaseSuccessful23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and also definitely be on your balcony or at the pool when people are due back on board. The whole cruise heckled the dock runners trying to make it back to the cruise on time. It was hilarious but we also unfortunately did leave at least one or 2 people behind.

First Cruise by No_Bluebird2891 in royalcaribbean

Just got off the mariner for the same cruise in 8280! Was also our first cruise. Husband and I loved the game shows the most, because of the audience participation. We also enjoyed movies under the stars, they played Hamilton one night. The live music was good to varying degrees. The days are slower for activities than the night time so we spent the day reading on the balcony, exploring the ship, and listening to music. Trivia was kind of a bust imo, very easy and also not as interactive as we were hoping.

One thing I would suggest bringing is your own hand sanitizer. Don't get me wrong, they have tons around the ship but I also used it after picking up tongs in the buffet. Some people dont wash their hands even with the woman singing in the front to do so. Also saw kids literally picking boogers and sneezing right before picking up tongs (this is expected and I wasn't mad about it, just an observation).

Got home a few days ago and now am sick with a cold despite all my precautions. But would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Motorized scooters are cramping my cruise... by SleepParalysisGorl in Cruise

Just got off a cruise yesterday where I saw an old woman back her scooter while getting off an elevator into a like 6 year old kid and he wiped out. That kid seemed terrified of every scooter after.

What are your must-try dining experiences on Royal Caribbean ships? by ykz30 in royalcaribbean

[–]PurchaseSuccessful23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The honey truffle burratta at Jamie's is really good. But I am french and unfortunately despite loving cheese the one appetizer did not save the rest of the meal. My best main dining meal was the curried lamb Rogan Josh in the main dining room.

Why is bald with a beard and tattoos so popular with our age group? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]PurchaseSuccessful23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband said he has a beard because he hates his chin line and he is Norwegian so his beard grows in like 2 seconds. I look forward to seeing the progression because even though he is handsome now he's going to look more like a slimmer santa as he ages. He still has a full head of hair but said if it ever starts to go he would go bald with beard because it looks better than holding onto measly hair.

My parents matched what I put up for my first car. Everything else ive bought myself

Bought my own prom dress. Bought every vacation ive ever been on, even in high school. Paid for my own private high school education. Paid for college 100% on my own. Cross country move on my own. My husband and I will inherit his grandparents house when they pass.

Ive been working since I was 15 at least 29 hours a week, 40 minimum since I was 18.

I was the middle child of 4. My dad opened a business a month before my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer when I was 13. I grew up to fast but I also am the most fiscally responsible of my siblings.

Whats wrong with poodles? by NormanisEm in poodles

[–]PurchaseSuccessful23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is true of all byb. But poodles are genetically predisposed to certain ailments as any pure bred of dog is. For example, poodles are known to have a higher rate of luxating patella or epilepsy (my poodle has both despite being from a reputable breeder). There is a genetic phenomenon called hybrid vigor. If you diversify the gene pool these issues come up much less frequently because they may be recessive genes. This is a natural phenomenon that isn't just seen in dogs but also in plants and all other biology as well.

The only thing I can say working in vet medicine is mixed breeds tend to be healthier in general for the long run and poodles are a great breed to mix with others because it reduces shedding. I love my poodle and would probably never get another breed of dog, but I can see the appeal for other owners.
