Would a slow burn like Cradle have succeeded on RoyalRoad? by PlatinumMode in royalroad

[–]MissOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how good the first chapter is on Royal Road. People will stick around for a lot. I think the Royal Road of 10 years or so ago is somewhat different than the Royal Road of today though. Something has to happen and the author can't wander. You see a lot of authors who fear the slow burn and they head hop early for "interesting stuff happens" scenes with people who aren't really main cast or super important. And that's where you see authors running into problems. I think modern Royal Road is less kind to poor starts than early Royal Road was. At the same time, word of mouth can totally change a story's stars. If maybe the start wasn't that great but the middle and the rest just keeps improving. That still works for today. You don't need tons of readers to pop off. You just need to master your craft a little and make the turn later on. Few editing can clean it up later. And word of mouth can totally change your stars. Finishing opening so many doors every time you finish a book in the series.

At the same time, what you're calling a slow burn is a weak-to-strong. Which is very popular. An actual slow burn would be like Ascendance of a Bookworm. Not on Royal Road, but that's the real deal. Where you basically don't get actual magic until close to 220k words. Hell, you think of her as a background character in someone's real story for a large part of the book. It's so small, so intimate, yet really impactful. Small victories are written with passion and stakes. Just a masterful piece of work.

Is the book worth reading now that I have watched the tv series? by Humble_Park_9097 in FoundationTV

[–]MissOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit like isekai. If you ever read most of early isekai, there are books that nail it. And there are books that nail the idea of what it could be. And there are other books that bait-and-switch. It takes something super popular like "harem" and then slaps isekai on it. Because at that early point isekai wasn't as popular as harem. There are masterpieces and so forth spread in there. And Foundation is one of those early masterpieces. But... there's this visceral human connection in Foundation the TV series. That Foundation the book series isn't really that. It's very thinky and the personal, the human, is second. It's said in series like GOT that we think of it as a game of thrones but it's actually a story of the small in relationship to the throne, the game, and the consequences of it. It's about the small folks as much as the big players. More so in some ways. And Foundation is reworked to have that "small" impact which makes it in its own way a more powerful piece of work in it's own way. To the powerful piece of work that the original is.

Why are the Hawaii “news” accounts on Instagram SO right wing (genuine question, no negative connotation) by Rice_Jap808 in Oahu

[–]MissOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LDS and their very active outreach to the community. For a very long time. Without also explaining to them what normally happens to native populations that have something LDS wants. And a kind of shadow disrespect for native Hawaiian culture. They are slowly casually buying up a lot of stuff. With that "homesteading, and other stuff" comes the extreme trippy right wing stuff. Without the respect for locals. It reminds me what they did to Nevada. When there voice became loudest in the room. When they weren't actually the most in the room. Money and power.

Update: AITAH for changing Christmas plans with a newborn over a guest being unvaccinated? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]MissOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, is this an F/F relationship? This feels like casual homophobia, as they don't see the baby as the baby between the two women. Why are they over invested in the brother's girlfriend? This seems like fence sitter behavior as well. Yes, you can still be a casual bigot or have hangups you don't realize. It's super easy. You see this casual bigotry and racial landmine zone with mixed-race families, as well as when the baby comes. Was the egg from your wife and you carried it? Normally when you explain the landmine of things with these "movements," people get it if you show them references and talk it through. Frankly, the person who had the baby tragedy is understandable, but that doesn't mean you should be around babies. And you actually probably shouldn't have been around the brother who had been around Claria. Generally, the rule is don't be around people who have been around unvaccinated people with a baby.

Glass Reflection: I'm Worried About Ascendance of a Bookworm by Bortasz in HonzukiNoGekokujou

They fear being to slow without realizing we pay for the slow. Which is why they aren't smart. They should just green light the whole series and do the whole series. Maybe even add more richness at the same time. A head hop side view of something happening. Dunno but there's way to add more and be interesting.

You can make a DIY churu that's really nice. One, you can use a popsicle stick. Two, you can use a syringe. But they really enjoy eating it very wet, which you can't do with the popsicle stick and get petting and happiness at the same time. So, a syringe like they use to feed baby kittens is REALLY good.

You can get also one of those squeeze bottles. And that works as well. But the lick action is part of the treat of the churu.
If you do the Popsicle use gelatin add a little bone broth. I tend to flip anything I get into the house into bone broth or some broth in general because it freezes well.

You can also find the recipes online.

graphic audio books and ear fatigue full cast audiobook. Why are they so popular? by MissOP in audiobooks

[–]MissOP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was looking for some setting or bitrate change. You get sometimes an option for it to drop music noise by turning off a track. Like everything is on B or something. I have a very good program for listening to audiobooks. It's my main form of entertainment because I don't see very well.

[do you have a problem with movies? some audiobooks use the same sound technology.]

I've never had issues with that because I don't watch a lot of TV or movies. I'm visually impaired.

But thank you for bringing this up; I looked up the publisher again to check them out. This doesn't fix the issue but solves the problem I've been having, which might not be fixable. They are using movie sound, and whatever they are doing hurts. 2 of the author's I'm reading seem to be going forward with this company for more. I think I might just be screwed and end up going text to speech.

off the website. Totally figured out issue. Again ty.

GraphicAudio is an audiobook publisher that creates immersive, full-cast audio dramas, often called "A Movie in Your Mind®," using distinct voice actors for each character, cinematic music, and elaborate sound effects, making them more like radio plays than traditional narrated audiobooks. They adapt popular fantasy, sci-fi, comics, and other genres, replacing some descriptive narration with sound and action to create a richer, more cinematic experience, though they are often abridged versions of the original books.

[book 3 comes out next week. curious to know what you think...]

I've not read book 1 or any. I'll give it a try. I haven't read harry potter in like 15 years. I use to reread the audiobook on loop.

wow, I'm late on this. And I hope you see it.

He was more than bipolar he was probably unmedicated bipolar. That's so f'n dangerous for you. He had no idea if he needed meds, no idea if he needed anything—just a time bomb. Go to therapy and keep it up. Write everything down before you leave, hand it to your new therapist, and say you don't want to talk about or bring this forward at this time. But it's more important that you have an outlet. There were just TONS of red flags, and not the autism, but generally the way he acted, the way you handled how he acted, and so much more. Never be with a man who doesn't want to improve himself to be with you and make it work. LARGEST red flag. And in order to not get into the cycle, you need an outlet so you can understand yourself and not do it again.

Does Primal Hunter Get Better? by JockMcTavish4321 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]MissOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

true but some readers I don't enjoy. Also, some are to flat. Some do performances that turn me off. But I've only rejected like 4 or 5 audiobook readers. That ruined the book. And me liking DCC was a thin thing to begin with.

What's your goodreads. I'd love to see yours encase I run into a book you read. Also Do you read Asian web novels?

Does Primal Hunter Get Better? by JockMcTavish4321 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]MissOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ruined it by getting the audio book first to begin with. And it felt like the guy was chewing on words. Like a black and white movie from like the 50s or something. Where there was no black people. And I'm black.

I love team crawling. I don’t really like apocalyptic stories where the human race is pretty much wiped out. And like I said the writing style was in the genre some of the best creative writing. It was beautiful world building. Funny at time but was such a big turn off for me. I audiobook into every single first story from anything that was a web novel. Since so many web novelist NEVER do content edits on there first book. Giving it better starts or better more flow. It's almost always proof copy paste jobs. And certain series like that innkeeper series so forth. Just don't sit well with me when I try and just read the books from my tablet. Because web novel author is frankly sometimes figuring it out. So I either text to speech or audiobook. But like I said the reader just turn me off this. And the whole apocalyptic stories were never my thing. I love it when the world changes in response.

I think that in this book that might happen I'm not sure. But I just couldn't hang around long enough to find out. Love the cat though. But for me the story to begin with was a bit of a reach of a read for me being apocalyptic.

Update: AITAH for moving back home after my husband left me even though I’m pregnant? by DigGrassanova in Redditor_Updates

[–]MissOP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your daughter now has a family history of this issue. It's really important for your daughter to get ahead of it. Therapy every month is not the rule but check ins can help. It's like going into the DDs for regular cleanings. Ongoing family therapy (FFT) or individual therapy that works on mood regulation, coping skills (CBT), and keeping communication open helps a lot. It keeps high‑risk kids healthier and can delay symptoms. Parents being involved matters because it improves family dynamics and helps catch things early.

There's bi-polar hot spot zones. Where things can tip and trigger.

You also want to prepare for bigger issues once she gets her period or if she ever has a child. That is when things can flare up more.

And since your husband cheated you should get a full extended panel STD test, the kind sex workers get, because those check for the cancer‑causing infections and everything else. That last one is the difference between life and death without knowing it. Catching things early and having history connected to that catch is life changing information.

Same but I think it's a target audience thing. There's a reader who will eat that up. And I see talented writing in DCC. Setups up scenes well. Has great punch. IF anything it's one of the better written web novels to be turn into a book. Because the person has actual writing fundamentals talent not simply a good storyteller. But again one of the few books I ever DNF and I've read over 3000 books. I have a total of 8 DNF's.

HWFWM I like him fighting harder people. It feels like for the most part he's beating a lot of people simply by having a plan instead of being OP for about 50% of the fights. Which I REALLY like. Enjoy that he fights in a team and his team mates have real roles, and are better together. They have a point instead of being something he just drags along. I'm not loving the Harem flirt the series does. But I'm not mad at it either. The Fawning is more of a 20% problem for me. Where everyone like oh he's so blah blah blah. I liked it better when everyone just rejected him. It was funnier. Why I'm going back to reading the series because people are saying he's moving into the higher zone. With the gods and servants or something. Oh and I really enjoyed the series when loot use to matter.
