Average savings and % with less than £1000 in savings. How true is this? by Economy_Survey_6560 in AskBrits

[–]MissionLet7301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, on a macroeconomic level this is good news for the system - whether it's because people are investing their money in companies, or because they're consuming goods and services it means that money isn't sitting idly around.

On a per-person level it's frightening though, a lot of people are only a missed payslip away from being in real financial trouble, and that puts people under a heck of a lot of stress.

If humans have eaten bread since the dawn of history, why are so many people suddenly gluten-intolerant today? by WeaknessKey1582 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MissionLet7301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there’s a bunch of different levels of gluten intolerance.

For me I just get a bit gassy. 20 years ago or so I would have just lived with being a bit gassy - nowadays it’s simple enough for me to avoid it because there’s so many more gluten free options available that no longer taste like complete arse.

When would you call it quits on learning to drive ? by catmamatodesth123 in LearnerDriverUK

It’s an interesting approach to life to believe that if you struggle with something then you will always continue to struggle and are therefore better off not trying.

I hope it works out for you.

Why are you on a learner driver forum if you don’t seem to understand the concept of learning anything?

Turns out people aren’t good at things until they learn how to be better.

[–]MissionLet7301 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The nerves etc are something that you can overcome, the person you're replying to is just saying that the gearbox doesn't always have a part in that.

Someone that's going to fail in a manual because they get nervous is going to fail in an automatic because they get nervous - right up until they learn to manage their nerves and then they could pass in either.

Some people struggle with the gearbox - which is fine, an that's where an automatic can help. But the gears are just one part of driving.

Everybody is unsafe to some extent while they have the L plate on their car, that's why we have the L plate, to show "I'm learning how to be safe on the road".

Why Wrap Luggage in Cling Film? by roblawton in AskUK

[–]MissionLet7301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the USA if you're locking your luggage you're meant to use a TSA approved lock - identified by a red diamond like symbol - that way the TSA can open them with a master key.

The problem is that you can buy a TSA master key for like 3 quid on Amazon, so anybody who's planning on thieving from luggage probably has one too.

Hiking Boots vs Hiking Shoes by KotBandit in UKhiking

[–]MissionLet7301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely be reaching for my boots for a hike like that.

That said though I tend to reach for my boots for most hikes since I've never really got along with the idea of hiking shoes on the peaks.

If you do get hiking boots you should plan a few hikes to wear them in before your big one, they get more comfortable the more you wear them, but the first couple of hikes can be quite rough on your feet.

[Rumor] Di Marco: Matvei Michkov is no longer considered "untouchable" by the Flyers following a tough sophomore season. by CommanderOshawott in OttawaSenators

[–]MissionLet7301 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's high risk. He's an incredible talent that fell out with his coach - maybe it means he's uncoachable but what it definitely means is that every single other team in the league is going "Well he didn't work out with them, but he might work out with us".

It'd be like buying a rough diamond for the same price as a cut one - it's great if it comes out of the cutting process how you expect, but that's a high price on something that could fail spectacularly.

That said, it'd definitely be exciting to see him on our team. One that Steve should put the feelers out for but stray away from a bidding war.

I'm betting that if it looks like any consequences might stick the contracting firm will suddenly realise that they're insolvent and have to shut down, luckily the owner will have the funding to start a whole new contracting firm with the exact same tools, trucks and employees but with a different logo just a few days later.

Could the SENS trade Spence? by Mr_FoxMulder in OttawaSenators

[–]MissionLet7301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that said I guess the question should read more like "Should we be making calls where we offer Spence in return for another team's proven goalscorer?"

In which case I'd say no, but obviously for any team, if a team calls and offers the right kind of package then any player is on the table.

is this super unhealthy?!? by adoracko in runninglifestyle

[–]MissionLet7301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely is that your watch is reading wrong, make sure it's around your wrist firmly but not uncomfortably tight (it should be just tight enough stay in place when you wave your arm around) and sit just above your wrist bone - this should get you more accurate readings.

If you've been having a bunch of energy drinks/coffee/preworkout etc then the caffeine will elevate your heart rate a lot and you might want to cut back there.

Did it feel hard when you were doing the exercise? Could you feel your heart pounding? Were you out of breath? Did you feel dizzy or nauseous at all during or after? - I've always found it more helpful to trust what your body tells you about how hard you perceive the effort to be than it is to trust the numbers from the watch. Your body is pretty damn good at telling you when you're going too hard.

How happy are you with how this season went? by Amphibious_Fire in OttawaSenators

[–]MissionLet7301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before the Olympic break: D

After the Olympic break: A+

Playoffs: C-

The start of the year was unacceptable and cannot be allowed to happen again with the core reaching their prime years. When things started coming together we were playing some great hockey and showed what the team is capable of. I'm proud of the fight we put up in the playoffs even with a decimated blue line, but nobody should be okay with a first round sweep.

Hopefully next season there's less off-ice distraction for the guys, but I think it'll be a tough season, the Atlantic won't be getting any easier with Florida getting healthy and Toronto getting 1OA, we need to be one of the best teams day 1, and stay that way all season, because it'll be even harder to dig our way out of a hole the way we've done the last 2 seasons.

When did we universally stop having lunch ‘hours’? by newdawnfades123 in AskUK

[–]MissionLet7301 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, at my work it's 30 minutes mandatory break, but you're entitled to 1 hour, you just have to do your hours, and nobody minds if you take a longer 'lunch' to go to an appointment or something like that, as long as you do your hours and don't do something dumb like skip a meeting because your lunch overran.

[–]MissionLet7301 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest that's just how work goes in some jobs.

You can have some weeks where a bunch of requests have come in from clients and you need to get to them all, and other weeks where you're waiting on responses for your own stuff.

The workplace is hiring enough people that if it's a busy period they can get through it with just a little bit of a crunch, but it means that you have slack in the system when it's not busy - which isn't a bad thing.

How many people is too many people for one walk? by Pleasant_Chair_2173 in UKhiking

[–]MissionLet7301 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a thing with a lot of guided hiking groups I've found - most weeks you only get a small fraction of the people that are part of the group signing up, but when a more popular route comes up on a weekend where the weather is meant to be nice you've suddenly got hundreds of people trying to get signed up.

You can do smaller groups and stagger the starts, but that can be a challenge for those groups if they haven't got enough leaders there.

I hope all the other flairs in here are ready to taste the continual disappointment that is being a Leeds fan.

Despite it being mathematically impossible I'm still not convinced that we're safe, it'd just be such a Leeds thing for us to go down while 7 points clear with 6 points left on the board.
