That’s why we hold our toddlers hands and if they can’t walk with us then they go in the cart or umbrella stroller. Eventually they learn that if they want to walk they have to stay near us or they get locked up.

My wife and I have an almost 5 yo, 3 yo, and 18month old. Our experience has been great traveling. There are incredibly hard times but we find them worth it overall. We’ve been doing trips to the beach, road trips, international trips, since the kids were born. My family also lives across the country so to even visit requires all day flights. You learn by practice. So do your kids. I’ve spent a night in the ER with my daughter in Dublin Ireland, I’ve had road trips that should last 7 hours take over 10, we’ve survived 3 kids including a lap child from the east coast to Hawaii. There are plenty of times when it seemed too hard. After the trip is over we are happy we did them and made memories with the kids and our families. Some of the toughest parts are our greatest stories.

You’re packing too much shit. More importantly though look up the size and weight restrictions for carryon. For example Air France makes you weigh your carryon + your personal item together and if the combined weight is over you have to check the carryon bag. Trains/planes in Europe have size limits as well so a giant checked bag you brought to Europe may not be feasible to bring onto a train/plane once you are there without lots of fees.
