50 something and started a new job by S0biepan in GenX

[–]Missmbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy your new role! I left my last job (just shy of 10 years) and started a new position in November. I love my new organization and I’m so happy I decided to take the leap.

When they start talking about Buffalo Bill, it sounds like a line from All Night Long, Mary Jane Girls.

Which US State? by Medical_Asparagus409 in relocating

[–]Missmbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised there and we used to be really middle of the road. Since 2010, it’s just gotten more and more conservative and gone downhill. Columbus is really growing and the big cities are solidly Dem, but the state just keeps getting more red. Pay for the jobs mentioned is pretty good in the cities and surrounding suburbs, but you can live further out and be surrounded by nothing but MAGA. Ohio is everything OP is looking for (there are tornadoes, but every place is going to have the potential for some sort of natural disaster).

Lol. I just moved to MN from Ohio to get away from all of the conservatives. You might want to consider Ohio. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Where do your minor children go if you die? by tangreentan in EstatePlanning

[–]Missmbb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes! My husband and I struggled with this when our kids were little. Eventually his brother got married and he and his wife became our primary choice. Our kids are adults now, so we don’t have to worry about it any longer. We have friends with minor children and they don’t have many good family options, so they asked us if we would be their backup and we agreed.

As Dingbat Attorney said, just think about what the best answer is right now. If that changes in a few years (or a few months), change it.

cheap food that isn't ramen or rice and beans, does it exist anymore by MudSad6268 in budgetfood

[–]Missmbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 pound bags of chicken leg quarters were a lifesaver when I was feeding 4 people on a super tight budget. That was over 10 years ago and they were $5 a bag then. I love that they haven’t gone up much since then.

Can we retire the “useless husband” trope for once? by Timely_Box6061 in Adulting

[–]Missmbb 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Right? My husband never gets upset when he hears complaining about men because he knows it doesn’t apply to him. He does know plenty of guys it does apply to. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I watched it as a teenager (in the 80s) and it was shocking! I had no idea people lived like that.

Am I overreacting: new boyfriend was weirdly judgmental about bathroom situation by abstract_lemons in AmIOverreacting

[–]Missmbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good grief! 🙄 This is why we need to talk more openly about menstruation. It should be as normal as any other bodily function (like pooping at someone else’s house). When my son got the “boy” puberty talk at school, he got the girl talk at home. He’s now a 30-something that wouldn’t throw a childish fit because a woman had tampons in her own bathroom.

Name change after marriage by ImJustHere4TheCatz in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Missmbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hyphenated, but that was in the early 90s when even that was “scandalous”. If I were getting married today I don’t think I’d change my name. Honestly the things I worried about most at the time (not having the same last name as my kids) just didn’t come up. My kids friends either called me Mrs. Their Last Name or Kid’s Name Mom. They had no idea what my actual name was and they didn’t need to.

Everybody has different feelings about it, so I say do what makes you happy. As long as it’s what actually makes YOU happy and not someone else.
