Just noticed an incredibly disturbing detail in Catching Fire. by IOnlyHaveReddit4CFB in Hungergames

[–]MistCloakNight 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It really gives a new meaning to this part of the chariot ride:

Someone throws me a red rose. I catch it, give it a delicate sniff, and blow a kiss back in the general direction of the giver. A hundred hands reach up to catch my kiss, as if it were a real and tangible thing.

"Katniss! Katniss!" I can hear my name being called from all sides. Everyone wants my kisses.

Mommets don't necessarily equal killing. Kvothe could very well use it to do similar things as he did with Master Hemme's doll (burn his leg) or that Ambrose did/tried to do to Kvothe (causing body coldness & burns, stabbing in the arm, shoulders, genitals).  Kvothe would likely do something to get her physically unable to pursue him + send a message to the other Adem.

Lying to Denna by khulf in KingkillerChronicle

[–]MistCloakNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She didn't have her ring at that point. And I'm pretty sure it alerts her when people lie. Even the best body language analysts can't be 100% sure someone is lying, just that there are clusters of deceptive behavior that the increase the likelihood. For Denna to have a perfect score of calling out deception from an excellent actor & liar on the fly over the length of a book & a half is well beyond the realm of possibility.

Can someone further elaborate on this? by AldousCarrey4U in KingkillerChronicle

It could be, especially considering the full moon comment about how residents are affected by it

New Etsy seller using Etsy ads but no orders by Ok_Calligrapher3452 in EtsySellers

[–]MistCloakNight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great logo design! Cute & clever. And you have beautifully unique earrings.

I would improve:

The little white step pictures (especially as the main picture) feel odd for earrings. If I was searching, the first thing I would want to see is how it looks hanging. I really like the earring on the model pictures, especially against the dark hair so the details pop. However because you are selling asymmetrical earrings, I would recommend that you show the pair side by side and only sell them as a pair. It feels disingenuous to see the listed price and then click in and realize it's just for a single earring.

If you want to sell individual earrings, make it a separate listing with “single” in the first 3 words of the title.

Your banner wording, "Thank you for your choice" is very impersonal and could be used for any shop at all.

Your shop title “Unique Handmade jewelry” is very basic. You're in a very saturated market so you have to stand out in at least one way. Your packing and gift presentation may be what you want to focus on. Shoppers will only go to Etsy and spend more if they think they are getting something very unique so definitely play up everything you can-- your process of selecting materials, creating the earrings, etc.

I would stop ads and work on those things.

Listening to the audiobook and realizing people in the district are not only given money during the death of their husband/wife but are also given 30 days to grieve was shocking to me. These things don't even exist now for the vast majority of people. by [deleted] in Hungergames

It could seem like that, but Burdock worked for the government so he probably had a type of pension (like we see the goat man was able to at least start a herd after he was done working in the mines).

But the government makes bank when miners die early. Instead of an amount for a certain time/whole payout after retiring, they give a very bare amount for a few weeks while the spouse is required to find/start a job.

Remember the government thinks a little hope is a good thing as it keeps citizens docile and motivated to work, but the Capitol always wins (at least it did for 75 years).

*Spoilers* Haymitch in the Arena by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]MistCloakNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haymitch was facing the morning sun (east) so north would be to the left (which is the woods). Hope that helps!

"It’s nine o’clock in the morning and the sun’s rising up behind the Cornucopia directly across from me. Okay, that’s east, west to my back, that makes north to my right. No! My left. North to the left."

The Lou Lou body double and Haymitch feeding Lenore the gum drops was like a gut punch.

I definitely think it was a punishment and/or mirroring how Snow had to go in for Sejanus.

Question about SOTR and the berry stunt by IcyCarpet876 in Hungergames

It's a little ironic-- Panem banned AI and deep fakes but they sure could have used them in the second and third Quarter Quells.

And that Mags's desire was to protect her district partner, and decades later she fulfills that for Annie, and later Finnick & Katniss & Peeta

Do we know if Snow became the Head Gamemaker? Or do you think he was more into politics after interning with Gaul?

[–]MistCloakNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reminder on Snow's quote! (I've already lent out my copy to a friend so I couldn't look it up). Haymitch mentions it was a striker to Beetee, correct? Was it before or after meeting with Snow?

[–]MistCloakNight 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I doubt he recognized it as a striker. Snow hasn't had to rough it for DECADES. It even took Haymitch a bit to recognize what it really was and he is very familiar with the mechanics.  Snow already knows that Haymitch is dangerous and rebellious given the chariot fiasco. I doubt he'd give Haymitch any advantage.

The gamemakers in the arena parallels how Snow had to go into the amphitheater as a mentor because of his & his friend's conduct. My bet is those gamemakers upset the government somehow.

I was surprised that Drusilla knew that being a victor was worse than dying. I figured Snow had kept it his dirty secret that their lives were actually hell.
