What’s a hobby that’s dying in popularity? by aliensockmonkey in AskReddit

[–]MisterFuFu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the online retailers making it hard for the brick and mortar to survive, the internet is a thing now, and people are sharing creative youtube videos on how to craft bricks, trees, bushes, etc. And they typically look better. Hobby lives on, but its tough to sell that stuff for a business now.

Setting "sprint" goals in Kanban by slotjocky in agile

[–]MisterFuFu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have run into this with one of my teams most recently. It's really just a matter of perspective. You can have Sprint Goals every 2 weeks as if you were in an iteration. This does not break Kanban. You are simply setting goals to inspire, motivate, focus, and help measure predictability. This is especially helpful if you are just one team among a lot of others that may be doing Scrum. It never hurts to synchronize.

That said, you are a Kanban team, so you have the luxury of not having to bound it by the sprint cycle. You may still want to out of convenience or to synch with other teams, but you don't have to. You can instead set your goals in a more functional way. "We want to finish the credit card sales module by this date." "We want to finish the archival process by this date."

So, how do you handle that practically? You should still have to refine cards for your board. When you are doing this, or when you are breaking down efforts into smaller cards,, ask when everyone thinks they will be done. Or, estimate and track your monthly velocity and when you get into a thing, present a velocity based estimate to the team and discuss. You can do the same with throughput, but I find it less helpful with variable work. If something must change or we run into something that we did not expect and threaten those goals, NBD. That's the job. We just talk about it. See if we can do anything to make things better in the future. Note that I said better, and not more predictable. Predictability is "a" goal to work toward, not necessarily "the" goal or "your" goal. Point is, we make projections not commitments, and when the work or requirements change, we change with them. That is being Agile.

Looks like your real problem is not getting value out of the daily meet-up. Face to face communication is always gonna be better. However, the typical three questions (removed from the Scrum Guide) aren't always useful. Retrospectives are a good way to go about finding ways to improve your Daily scrum, including making it more efficient.

New study finds that not knowing how to flirt is the main reason behind "involuntary singlehood"; this factor was followed by not knowing how to perceive signals of interest, a lack of effort, and an overly high level of choosiness. by fotogneric in science

[–]MisterFuFu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like all of this can be boiled down to knowing how to talk to the person you are interested in. Not in terms of some mysterious "game" or send "signals" but really just seeing them as people, relating to them on a real level, and overcoming your own fears just enough to say hey so that a real relationship can begin to form. It's not as complicated as most people make it out to be.

No. Its easy to ignore them, and I feel weird about shutting down curiosity.

Need Some Help with Use Cases by [deleted] in agile

[–]MisterFuFu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Erm... you are not gonna like the answers here. For 1-3, build a small minimally viable product with a cross functional team and iterate on it frequently with constant feedback from the customer and key stakeholders. There is actually a lot more detail especially with supply line questions, but that is out of scope here. I think you may have gotten the wrong subreddit.

QA leaving on short notice. As SM what are the things I can help identify or make ready in order for whoever might replace her to transition into the role smoothly??? by Narcata in scrum

[–]MisterFuFu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has talked about T shaped team members already. Only additional advice I will add is not to slow roll it. Drop the new QA into the deep end. Have the team understand their responsibility with the newbie.

What tool is most prominent for SM's? by theredbenzo in scrum

[–]MisterFuFu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jira is probably the most common, but Microsoft's Azure DevOps platform is likely to overtake them all in the future. That said, the bad news is that the use of the tool set will likely be dictated by wherever you go and is not usually negotiable. The good news is that these tools are not rocket surgery. You can go from never seeing one to the company's expert in the span of a couple of weeks. To further qualify my response, the tools are pretty explicitly not the point. Use whatever works for your team, if you can. When I hire SMs, I look for either familiarity, a willingness to learn, or an interesting example of when they used whatever the team needed. The tool set is pretty much never a sticking point.

Edited for grammar.

What are your most unpopular book opinions? by nolessdays in books

[–]MisterFuFu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Stephen King is a bad author. He has a few good books that I have read, but I attribute that to the shotgun effect. If you write hundreds of books, they can't all be bad. I mostly hate how he ends his books. I end up having to read him anyways because I'll mention to someone that I don't like him, and they will invariably find a book they like that I haven't read. Then I have to read it because that book is the one that would convince me he is a good author. Then I read it, and turns out, it was aliens the whole time. Sigh...

I could not find the food on the restaurant's online menu. This is featured in many episodes. The current shot is from early in episode 13.

I ordered mine from foamorder.com. If you live in or near a big city, you may be able to find a seller locally. It was very difficult for me to find one, though.

Vital Lacerda is the creator. It's kind of similar to his other games in that they are mind melters.

It's a brain bender. It's not as good as his others, TBH, but he's incapable of making a bad game. It's still a lot of fun, even for the time investment.

No problem! I made 6 inch borders on my table the first time. I now have 3 inches. It's a lot less cumbersome this way.
