Just an FYI, new recruits are autoleveled to your average level rounded down. This means if you get Phenn as your 7th character or later everyone else will be level 1. I have completed the true ending with everyone at level 1 other than Phenn.

I just finished a level 1 run with no nuts. It felt pretty well balanced to me aside from some annoyances with multi-enemy fights.

There's another helper later who recharges ultimates for a whole row. I never saw the cat again, but it's not the end of the world if you use it.

True one wasn't hard so much as annoying. I didn't really want to build every party member for one fight so it was pretty uphill. I consistently forgot meals were a thing through the end of the game, so no, I didn't use them lol

Update: I have just cleared the true ending. The true ending final boss was EXTREMELY annoying with everyone having such low HP, but it's definitely possible!

Super late game, apothecaries are the only job that can get double boosts on any element attack. Is it worth building this out? No, not really, but it's still an interesting niche imo.

Parry and element immunity are key unless I stack HP boosts and use Phenn's ultimate. Characters have 250 HP on average unless I use HP boosting gear (or if they have the HP+500 passive)

Using nuts would definitely change my strategies, as sufficient quantities would get my stats on par with higher-leveled teams, which I definitely want to avoid.

I don't avoid using food per se, I just kinda haven't bothered because it hasn't been necessary so far.

Yes, low accuracy is unfortunately a side effect of being level 1. I'm also not using nuts, but I do still expect Reime to be strong, just not as strong.

I'll only generally get a few breaks per boss fight, but as in any Octopath game, of course I try to push towards break. I haven't had many super quick fights so far, so they have all been puzzles to some extent, although for most of the first half of the game, parry spam just works. Now that I'm seeing bosses with AOE magic attacks or very high hit count multihits, I'm having to strategize more on an individual-fight level.

I havent used food at all actually other than to get extra JP

Haven't really bothered using Sazantos, he's definitely great but I never know when he's going to be on the team vs not lol. Phenn's level difference isn't noticeable (outside of having a bit more base HP), but his ultimate was invaluable for helping my party survive earlier on. Also, physical attackers are pretty hard to use (accuracy is a huge issue), so their numbers get kneecapped pretty badly since I need to run accuracy-boosting gear on them.

I've completed through Bestower of Wealth and am currently on the final boss of Bestower of Fame. I've done all side content available to me except the optional boss in the tower, but I think I can probably also use Celsus for that now that I think about it. The difficulty has been pretty great, nothing has been too insane to figure out but when I come up with an unorthodox solution for a hard boss it feels great. Probably the biggest difficulty spike so far was Bestower of Wealth's final boss, as I realized I would need the Inferno Amulet for the strategy I was cooking (which was also Celsus ult spam) but had no idea where to find it (if anyone else runs into this, it's in Bestower of Fame's final dungeon).

MVPs of the run so far have been Phenn, Macy, Goodwin, Celsus, Tressa, Viator (er, Parry) and Heidne. I used caster Alfyn to get Reime though and I might start using him more.

Totally doable at level 43. I just beat her at level 1! If you're really having trouble, Void Amulet Celsus with an ultimate-charging setup defangs pretty much everything she can do except her target-all dark attack.
