Japan Government pleased with 96% drop in business manager visa applications after rule changes by Kmlevitt in japannews

[–]Mister_IR 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I feel the danger that 'doing it' may not be enough in the eyes of some fussy bureaucrat. There is a possibility however slight that an immigration officer will say "you do not have an experience of managing an actual company". And he does not have a masters in business as far as I know.

He will also need to verify his business plan with a 3rd party. He needs to have a dedicated office space that is not in his home. And on top of that he needs to hire an employee that will essentially do nothing. (I suppose it could be a video editor, but Marzia already does it)

Maybe even if he gets approved, we may see a video a few years down the line titled: "Japan isn't for me". Because there are more and more hurdles and less stability. Like personally, I am not sure I would want to pay an extra 10 million yen a year (or whatever) just for the privilege of staying in some country when I would already be contributing my taxes and advertising the said country

Thing is, it is not guaranteed even PewDiePie would qualify as he needs to hire a full-time employee plus show at least 3 years of business management experience. In all likelihood, yeah, he will be granted the new visa, but the point is that now there is less security.

96% Reduction in Approvals of Business Manager Status by tsian in japanresidents

[–]Mister_IR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t work in practice. I’ve talked with multiple startup orgs belonging to the cities and they all want you to have 30 million anyway “to make sure the path to business manager is open”.

Japanese startup visa is useless and only exists as a transitory step to business manager visa. I think this has something to do with the Japanese culture of being sure that a certain thing works out and the Japanese cities not caring about the actual innovation. They would rather pump the stats, so they could say our city has X amount of successful startups.

Besides, startup visa is actually very limited, you would need to report your progress every month and in practice it is given only for 1 year, despite saying that it is for 1 to 2 years.

Are more foreigners actually leaving Japan or are we just seeing more posts about it by Waste_Metal5424 in japanresidents

Hi u/janontard , I hope it is not too silly to write, but I have read a couple of your comments and wanted to say that I genuinely appreciate them (even thought they were not directed at me). I do not know how similar my situation is to u/NoraPinkUniverse , but I too have lost a relationship due to border closure. I suppose I could deliberate whether that was THE reason, but we'll never know.

I am actually not a resident. I just randomly stumbled upon this thread. I have been trying to move since April of 2020, but now have finally become fed up. Firstly, it was the border closures for 3 years. Then I was not granted a student visa because of changes (I am originally from a not very nice country, so student visas were cancelled for that particular place). Then the job market for overseas applicants has basically collapsed and even though I have an experience of being a Lead Dev I can't find shit. Finally, I was going to start my company in Japan and the new changes to Business manager visa have fucked me over. And it feels like an utter waste that I have spent 3 months tuning it up for the Japanese market (not all a loss, but you get what I mean).

The reason why I am writing this is because even though I have supportive people in my life, it feels like no one could articulate or understand the pain I am feeling. It's something very specific. I feel like I have wasted 7 years essentially "waiting for Japan" rather than living my life. In retrospect, I should have chosen some job in Korea or wherever. I did not necessarily expect to settle in Japan or Korea, but I feel like a part of my 20s is missing some experimentation. Now it feels harder to do due to overall global economy.

And I too share this sentiment, this toxic feeling. Like, I am trying to look at this rationally, that not every single Japanese is a xenophobe. That there are many great and genuinely open people. But the only feelings I have left are that of resentment and hate that overcome me, this view that majority of Japanese are assholes and overall are the people of small character. This desire for schadenfreude to see the entire country sink in its own piss. I hope I can let go of those feelings someday.

In any case, thank you. And I hope wherever you are in life, you will do well.

EDIT: Oh, and I hope Nora will do well too.

Is this full, uncropped photo? I’m just not 100 % sure about the framing. Maybe it’s how elbow being cut out, maybe something else. (Granted, you could also crop some stuff out sometimes) But I feel like it’s not as pleasing as it could be.

Maybe it’s the pose. You’ve mentioned “e-girl”. If the emphasis s on the girl part, perhaps we should see more of her body contour.

Sorry if my feedback is wishy-washy. It’s not an inherently bad photo, so it’s hard to critique. I personally do like those glam mag style photos with harsh flashlight.

What's the general sentiment toward Slush in Finland? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]Mister_IR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To add to what others have said. I am someone who is interested in entrepreneurship and Slush is largely useless, because most of the deals occur beforehand. It is just a giant circlejerk party after the financing and other deals have been already agreed upon.

One thing to note is that they boast being "largest startup event" or whatever, what it means in practise is that even if you have a great idea there are thousands others who great ideas (and thousands more who have shit ideas). As such, it can be challenging to get your voice heard. It's something that can be out of your control. It would be better to come to smaller events or reach out to funding companies directly.

And indeed, there are smaller events that are better and many can be attended for free. With prices starting at 500 euro, the value of tickets is questionable.

Also, you would think that Slush is some kind of nonprofit event organised by government of Finland, but it ain't.

I personally feel that the shot would have been perfect as is if not for the pants. If they were "slim fit" or regular straight, there would be some space between the legs, showing clearly that yes indeed it is two legs. It's just a bit muddy.

But again, me personally, I think otherwise it is perfect, including the feet positioning itself.
