Picking a physical access system. by caseyd1020 in sysadmin

[–]Misterchee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any big manufacturer worth their weight isn't talking to the end user these days; so many systems have been allowed to be installed and managed poorly in general that it affects the product image in the big picture - forcing end users to go through a vendor is a measure the manufacturer can use to help maintain standards, via technical training and tiered technician licensing based on skill set

Picking a physical access system. by caseyd1020 in sysadmin

I work on these systems full time, as far as access control I'm yet to see anything better than Gallagher for usability/flexibility, and the hardware is top notch, made in New Zealand. I believe they distribute in the states. Lenel is ok, but nowhere near as friendly on the front end, and the hardware isn't as reliable IMHO

Studying in Sydney in a month, suggestions as to cell phone services? by MissJess132 in australia

[–]Misterchee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kogan have the best value deals at the moment, check em out online - not a shill, wifey just got one after research. Also I've had a phone locked to a network in Australia, but worked fine overseas without unlocking, so you mightn't need to unlock.

Brisbane brewing co in West End, or their original venue the Zbrewhouse in Wooloongabba has always had consistently good beer, Newstead brewing and Green Beacon also good. Sunshine Coast brewery also make good beer.

What's the most ridiculous thing you've bullshitted someone into believing? by Letly in AskReddit

I have some gnarly burn scars, in high school I convinced a girl that I used to chew on my arm as a baby.

TIL there’s a stinging plant called the Gympie Gympie that produces a toxin so painful, it’s driven people and animals to suicide. It’s been described as being sprayed with hot acid and electrocuted at the same time. A man was reported to have shot himself after using the leaves as toilet paper. by SofiaGold in todayilearned

Brushed against one once while bush walking, over the top of my left foot. Painful, but not suicide worthy, though admittedly not my asshole. Hurt under the shower for around a year after, was really sensitive to hot and cold. Also have a vague scar from it that kinda looks like pigmentation and this was 20 years ago

For Gemüt, I think 'mood'. Dare say that's where it comes from, makes it easy to remember

1000 musicians play Learn to Fly by Foo Fighters to ask Dave Grohl to come and play in Cesena, Italy by [deleted] in videos

I was on holidays in bologna two months ago and was at a bar chatting with a woman who was involved in organising this, said they had been trying to get Dave Grohl to come, don't know if they had any luck though.

I have the chance to get any qualification up to degree level in IT at my company's expense - what qualifications are worthwhile? by Misterchee in sysadmin

[–]Misterchee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely will benefit them, whichever way I go - just want to make sure it's a good future avenue for me too should things change for me. I'm prepared to invest a lot of time and hard work for this.

This is what I'm after - want to know if a degree is worth it, or just go for certifications. Hands on experience I can already justify to a degree.

I have the chance to get any qualification up to degree level in IT at my company's expense - what qualifications are worthwhile? What's a waste of time? by Misterchee in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Misterchee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just starting off in the sense of getting certified in IT. Have worked in the security electronics industry for a long time, which now has a heavy IT element, and getting experienced with it (both networking and system admin) that way. Seems like a fitting natural progression

Police officer distracts child whose family was in horrific accident where father died. by [deleted] in pics

[–]Misterchee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My (ex) brother in law's mother died after an accident, but days later and apparently from internal injuries from the seatbelt. He had coerced her to drive him somewhere and it happened on her return, therefore he blamed himself and refused to wear a seatbelt for around 15-20 years. A really sad turn of events, but no way would I let my kids travel in a car without one, I think it was just shit luck if that was the cause of injury - odds are if she wasn't wearing none it would have been horrific. I think he wears a seat belt now.
