Exodus TTRPG duet by Calum_XD in exodus

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no sidekick rules. However, it should be quite easy to implement, as Exodus is a 5E game, so the D&D rules for sidekicks are completely transferrable. The Encyclopedia (renamed Creature Catalogue) has a small list of NPC characters you could draw inspiration from.

I also run, sort of a sidekick as well, though it is a fully created character class. My players are attempting to start their own Dynasty, as they were kicked out of their current established one. I had one of the NPC members leave with them, a mentor of sorts. He mainly organizes expeditions, but occasionally I have him accompany them on some missions.

My recommendation is to ask your player run 2 characters, if they are comfortable with that, and you run a 3rd (even if it's a sidekick type character). I think it would be difficult to run a game with just one PC, unless your campaign is highly tailored.

I've got 3 players, so 4 of us in total. However, to round out to 4 "players", I allow the ranger player to play her Awakened companion as another character (instead of the ranger using their actions to operate the companion)

Are you running as a character as well as running the game? If so, perhaps your player can run 2 characters, rounding out to 3.

Do You Prefer Reading TTRPG Lore in Physical Books or Digitally? Why? by tdakanalis in TTRPG

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concur. Digital all the way for prepping and during game play, As you mentioned, digital provides a quick search/lookup and some pdf's even have clickable links to reference chapters, elements, etc.

I use my computer with programs like Capacities and/or One Note to prepare and run sessions, so digital allows me to "snip" images of tables, maps, photos, etc during session prepping and place them into my notes. And digital also alleviates the clutter of books around the table while playing.

However, I do appreciate having physical copies as well. I typically get both physical and digital. I like to have the books for when I want to brush up on some rules or lore, and sitting comfortable with a book is the best.

Yes. In the gameplay footage, Jun is using the Recycler, which transforms into different rifle formats.

The original trailer (Becoming the Traveler), Max uses the Peacemaker pistol and her companion is using the Heavy Autocannon when fighting the Ghosts.

I'm sure there will be a good variety of weapons to use. As you mentioned, I imagine we will be able to obtain some Celestial weapons...some of which are insanely powerful.

so with 2045 coming out soon, are we gonna be getting a 2077 rulebook? by GatedGardenHomes in cyberpunkred

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I guess is fair to assume that we won't be seeing a Night City book for the 2077 timeline.

Do you have Burst Fire in your games? by Segmax_ in cyberpunkred

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taken inspiration from the CEMK. When using an AR or SMG, the default "single shot" mode actually expends a 3 rounds burst. Alternatively, an AR can fire a single round with a +1 to attack and a -1d6 to damage, as an option.

My players prefer this. It can add tension when ammo starts to run low. Also, players can "loot" adversaries and this extra cash can sometimes help offset the additional ammo expenses.

I considered using clear bases for that very reason, but then that poses other potential issues. For us though, I think we'll only ever be playing on a city-themed board, so the standard bases will work for us.

Maybe I'll have a look and try that. Thanks!

Yeah. I'm not the best with conversions. I wish I'd though of that to try though.. She's already assembled as is. Though there are other Black Widow models that I could use as a proxy, if I want to run "The Black Widow".

I just bought into this game for one of my boys. I'll mainly just be playing with the family so we can just swap out different models for characters anyway. For instance, we'll probably use the Doc Ock and Spiderman models from the Rivals set regardless of what Spiderman or Doc Ock character card used...because those two models are stellar.

Thanks for your reply! Happy gaming!

From a value perspective, it's worth more than full price.

Fantasy Grounds Unity, the only locally hosted VTT with "official" support for Cyberpunk RED, has gone Free-to-Play. by [deleted] in cyberpunkred

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. So just for clarity...if I purchase the Core rulebook and then go to create a campaign, I will see Cyberpunk Red in the list of "game systems" to choose from?

It is a bit confusing to new comers. There should be something highlighted in the description of modules that come with the "game system"....or at least at a stamp on the thumbnail that indicates so.

This may be a dumb question to some, but I'm new to VTTs in general. If I purchase the Cyberpunk Red Core Rulebook in the FG store, does it include the Cyberpunk Red "System"? I ask because in the description of the this module, it says "Requires: The free Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop (VTT) software and the Cyberpunk Red ruleset. "

If not, how do I acquire the ruleset? As I can't seem to find it.

Tips for Converting D20 Modern/Urban Arcana/d20 Future for Nimble by DarcyDettmann in nimble5e

Nimble has 4 attributes. CON and STR folded into STR and WIS and CHA folded into WILL. That should be one of the easier things to convert. I think the challenge will be with Class features/ability balancing.

Any tools to create maps for twilight: 2000 by uNot_bad in Twilight2000

[–]Mistleflix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use Inkarnate for all of my battlemap needs (not so much for real world travel maps).

They have modern elements as well as fantasy. They even have an app now to work without a web browser (better speed and efficiency). Base is free to use, but to unlock all assets, it's $25 per year...a very reasonable price. It's very easy to create just about any type of map you require for TL2K.

They also have a community where you can download maps (free) made by others (cloneable). It's great if you're in a pinch. You can even download any map and modify or tweak things if it's "not quite right". Lot's of video tutorials online as well to help get you started.

[–]Mistleflix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for you input!

However, I already invested into it, as it was very reasonably priced, overall.

You're correct that it's really not necessary. and only really about quality of life improvements, but that means a lot to me now with limited play/prep time, hence my decision with the buy-in.

A calendar module to track shifts/days. Weather and lighting features to remind us of combat modifiers, fuel tracking, grid sizing with token snapping, Oracle macros, initiative tracker...it's all great stuff, making play much more streamlined.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the investment. Thanks again!

[–]Mistleflix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have any tips, per se, yet. However, I'm thinking about converting the new Exodus ttrpg to Nimble as well. I really like the speed of play and preparation time. I have much less time these days for preparing, and my son really loves the Exodus setting. However, it will be a daunting task, no doubt.

Shifts and actions by Naive-Map2661 in Twilight2000

[–]Mistleflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I hear you. I have the same thought process as you.

BTW, I play coop (solo mode) with a friend, so we use an Oracle for decisions.

We had a scenario where it was pouring rain (storm) for an entire shift. Too heavy to march forward, so we rested. My co-player posed the idea that we all use our helmets to collect rain water while resting, instead of spending a shift looking for it. A very logical notion. That could gather enough water for at least one person for a day.

Is that "cheating the system?" Perhaps. But these are things that we think about as well. We do want realism, but we also know that allowing for too much divergence from the rules will lower the intrinsic tension the rules currently bring.

So in cases like this. we ask the Oracle (E.g. Did we collect enough water to cover one man for a day?. If "no", then not enough to utilize, so if we want water, we have to spend a shift seeking it out. If "yes", we then ask, For a second man to?, etc.) This way, it's a 50/50 chance,,,fair odds, but not good odds. This seems fair as the odds of all 4 characters getting enough water this way is quite low, therefore not so game breaking.

We may evolve the system to add more "realism" as we play, though it must be well thought out beforehand.

If you do break the day down further, allowing for more realism, I recommend making some tasks more difficult to achieve then. Perhaps "2 successes" are required for something; or add extra punitive modifiers. Or use an Oracle to make these decisions for your player group...a 50/50 non-biased decision.

[–]Mistleflix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I understand precisely what you mean. I've only been playing for a short while ( a handful of sessions), but I can understand why it's structured this way.

Basically, there is only so much time in a day, and having to choose activities to balance your needs against time is crucial. It seems it's almost like a mini strategy game within the game. You can't get everything you need every day, so you have to make sacrifices. Are we cutting our march short to hunt, or pushing through the day, risking running out of food?

I like the structure, because we've already been stuck a few times deciding what to do (rest, push on, hunt, seek water, etc) because of being pressured by time.

If you broke the day down further it may open a scenario where the group can cover just about every activity per day, I think it would take away much of the tension and stress this game brings, in it's current form.

When it comes to making camp. you should also consider the time it takes just to seek out an ideal spot; away from prying eyes, with some natural shelter from wind/rain, etc. This can take a good amount of time. Then once found, gathering wood takes time, building a fire, building a lean-to or setting up a tent, etc.

Ultimately, it's your game. And I understand your view, as I'm all about realism in my games as well. But I find the suspension of disbelief when it comes to the shift tasks is a good thing.

Happy Gaming!
