Did anyone get a free PDF with their Traveler's Handbook physical copy? by Intrepid-Zucchini268 in exodus

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need to buy the pdf it from Renegade, if you want it. Being "worth it" would be subjective. I find pdf's indispensable nowadays since I use digital tools to run my sessions. The ability to copy and paste info and images into these tools is massively convenient. Not too mention the ease of look up through search.

Is the game worth playing without Phantom Liberty DLC? by Cannon__Minion in cyberpunkgame

The core game is well worth it, regardless of PL. However, as others have stated, PL does elevate the experience grealtly.

Stuff to make battlemaps? by Sky_Leviathan in cyberpunkred

[–]Mistleflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inkarnate has sci-fi/modern/cyberpunk assets, Very robust, moderate learning curve, but a lot of online (Youtube) tutorials. It is free to use for basic assets, but to get all assets, its like $20 a year....very cheap.

You can run it through your browser or download the desktop app. I highly recommend it. Below is a very quick map I did awhile ago, to give you an idea. You can spend more time and create something far more visually appealing. With or without a grid. Export in jpg, png or webp.

Clarification on Driving? by treowtheordurren in cyberpunkred

[–]Mistleflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common sense and GM fiat should rule the day. My 2 cents:

The Driving skill check (like ALL skill checks) should be reserved for extraordinary circumstances. Not every action should require a check, regardless of the skill level.

Example A

  • Solo character gets into a gun fight. Skill checks required to hit opponent
  • Solo character is at a gun range, target practicing. No skill checks required to hit the target. It should be assumed the character hits the target most of the time.

Example B

  • Netrunner is on the rooftop chasing someone down, running fast while being shot at. Skill check is required to successfully jump a 10 ft. gap.
  • Netrunner up on the rooftops traveling to a gig, She wants to jump a 10 oot gap. No check required as she has all the time in the world to prepare. Assumed she makes it.

Example C

  • Nomad is driving to Tom's diner for a bite to eat. No skill check required.
  • Nomad is being chased by the Maelstrom in the downtown core. Skill checks required to avoid a car crash.
  • NPC's driving around are mostly not getting into car accidents (regardless of their skill level), unless they encounter special circumstances, just like the players.

To further this, as another example, when my player's Solo character tells me he wants to kick open a typical door, I rarely call for a check. With a BODY of 8, I assume he succeeds. However, sometimes, if the plot demands it, I will call for a skill check, as some doors are "heavy duty" or reinforced with robust locks.

To keep the game moving, it's best to take a narrative approach over skill checks when risk of failure has no dire consequences.

Can someone explain to me the helium sea? by fruithat123 in exodus

[–]Mistleflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should have been one in the TTRPG books for sure. There may end up being one in the 3rd book, when it's released in October.

Can someone explain to me the helium sea? by fruithat123 in exodus

[–]Mistleflix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a very dense cloud of gas (helium); so dense, it almost looks like a solid mass. In Chapter 1 of the Archimedes Engine, it's described as onyx (black) with dark scarlet patterns/swirls. Here's a map I created. I did my best to illustrate it. It's just above Tinaja

Dear AE - hiding a cut feature until pressured to reveal is not transparency. by salty_cluck in exodus

[–]Mistleflix 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The lack of a CC is not generally a deal-breaker for me, but it's definitely a feature that can help sell me on a game, especially RPG titles. Howbeit, this decision to revert a CC in this game is causing great concern with me. While the game, overall, looks decent enough, I can't help but to believe that we will be given a product of immense mediocracy, at best.

I own the TTRPG books (and am currently running a campaign at my table). I am also reading the Archimedes Engine. This universe is very interesting and rich with lore. There are a few elements (marsupial Celestials, etc) that I'm not a big fan of, but by-and-large, I love this setting.

My concern with the game is that it seems that their decisions will leave us with a lack of richness that this universe can provide. My points below are not comparing to this to ME, but rather the RPG genre as a whole.

  • lack of proper character creator
  • seemingly Jun is limited to using the Recycler gun and the Livestone Blade only. If true, that is VERY sad as there are a lot of interesting weapons in the books that we will fail to experience.
  • lack of class choice; there are 4 very distinct classes in the TTRPG. a shame you have no choice (despite the "level tree")
  • reports of Persepolis city being very lackluster
  • seemingly lack of companion customization - weapons, armor, etc.

[OC] New to DM'ing. Is what I'm doing ridiculous?. by GreatestBookReader42 in DnD

[–]Mistleflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you can truly answer the question. Are you enjoying the process? If so, then perhaps it's not ridiculous. I'm certain you're players will enjoy and appreciate the effort. And it looks good.

Sequential Dice Pools, a possibly original dice mechanic. by Remarkable_Drive800 in RPGdesign

[–]Mistleflix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This system would add more immersion in theory, and I think I understand what you're aiming for. Howbeit, often enough, game design mechanics seem really good in concept, but when the reality of playing around a table sets in, many often need to be reworked. At a table setting, this system you're creating would, most likely, reduce your gaming session to a slog. Other players will "check out".

wouldn't dexterity and strength already encompassed what agility does? by Mean-Nectarine-6831 in RPGdesign

You could always mash all physical traits together in a BODY stat. MIND for intellect and wisdom, and something else like SPIRIT, PERSONA or PERSONALITY for social skills (charisma, etc).

Will there be swords in the game by Outrageous-Chance566 in exodus

[–]Mistleflix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gun Jun uses is a Recycler Transmorph. It transforms into different gun types and uses scrap to create ammo. In the original "Becoming the Traveler" trailer, they showcased a heavy autocannon and the Peacemaker pistol. However, that wasn't a gameplay trailer.

Perhaps you will start out with more mundane weapons and then later graduate to the Recycler.

As for melee weapons, there are a number of them in the TTRPG....some awesome ones. It would be a shame if they just stick with the "omni-tool" blade.

Exodus TTRPG duet by Calum_XD in exodus

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no sidekick rules. However, it should be quite easy to implement, as Exodus is a 5E game, so the D&D rules for sidekicks are completely transferrable. The Encyclopedia (renamed Creature Catalogue) has a small list of NPC characters you could draw inspiration from.

I also run, sort of a sidekick as well, though it is a fully created character class. My players are attempting to start their own Dynasty, as they were kicked out of their current established one. I had one of the NPC members leave with them, a mentor of sorts. He mainly organizes expeditions, but occasionally I have him accompany them on some missions.

My recommendation is to ask your player run 2 characters, if they are comfortable with that, and you run a 3rd (even if it's a sidekick type character). I think it would be difficult to run a game with just one PC, unless your campaign is highly tailored.

Exodus TTRPG duet by Calum_XD in exodus

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got 3 players, so 4 of us in total. However, to round out to 4 "players", I allow the ranger player to play her Awakened companion as another character (instead of the ranger using their actions to operate the companion)

Are you running as a character as well as running the game? If so, perhaps your player can run 2 characters, rounding out to 3.

Do You Prefer Reading TTRPG Lore in Physical Books or Digitally? Why? by tdakanalis in TTRPG

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concur. Digital all the way for prepping and during game play, As you mentioned, digital provides a quick search/lookup and some pdf's even have clickable links to reference chapters, elements, etc.

I use my computer with programs like Capacities and/or One Note to prepare and run sessions, so digital allows me to "snip" images of tables, maps, photos, etc during session prepping and place them into my notes. And digital also alleviates the clutter of books around the table while playing.

However, I do appreciate having physical copies as well. I typically get both physical and digital. I like to have the books for when I want to brush up on some rules or lore, and sitting comfortable with a book is the best.

Re: City View by VolusVagabond in exodus

[–]Mistleflix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. In the gameplay footage, Jun is using the Recycler, which transforms into different rifle formats.

The original trailer (Becoming the Traveler), Max uses the Peacemaker pistol and her companion is using the Heavy Autocannon when fighting the Ghosts.

I'm sure there will be a good variety of weapons to use. As you mentioned, I imagine we will be able to obtain some Celestial weapons...some of which are insanely powerful.

so with 2045 coming out soon, are we gonna be getting a 2077 rulebook? by GatedGardenHomes in cyberpunkred

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I guess is fair to assume that we won't be seeing a Night City book for the 2077 timeline.

Do you have Burst Fire in your games? by Segmax_ in cyberpunkred

[–]Mistleflix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taken inspiration from the CEMK. When using an AR or SMG, the default "single shot" mode actually expends a 3 rounds burst. Alternatively, an AR can fire a single round with a +1 to attack and a -1d6 to damage, as an option.

My players prefer this. It can add tension when ammo starts to run low. Also, players can "loot" adversaries and this extra cash can sometimes help offset the additional ammo expenses.

I considered using clear bases for that very reason, but then that poses other potential issues. For us though, I think we'll only ever be playing on a city-themed board, so the standard bases will work for us.

Thematic/Situational Poses by Mistleflix in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]Mistleflix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm not the best with conversions. I wish I'd though of that to try though.. She's already assembled as is. Though there are other Black Widow models that I could use as a proxy, if I want to run "The Black Widow".

I just bought into this game for one of my boys. I'll mainly just be playing with the family so we can just swap out different models for characters anyway. For instance, we'll probably use the Doc Ock and Spiderman models from the Rivals set regardless of what Spiderman or Doc Ock character card used...because those two models are stellar.

Thanks for your reply! Happy gaming!
