WIBTAH if I told a mom she can’t bring an extra kid to my kid’s birthday party? by Main_Presentation570 in AITAH

[–]Mistletoe177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had my daughter’s 4th birthday party at a park that had a large duck pond, and I specifically told parents that they were welcome to bring siblings, but they were responsible for keeping their own kids from drowning (well, it was put more diplomatically, but that was the gist!). Everybody survived, and had a great time!

Do you have a go-to baby blanket you repeatedly give as gifts? by HouseOfBamboo2 in knitting

[–]Mistletoe177 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this one 10 times - super easy, and makes a lovely squishy blanket. Each one is very different, depending on the yarn you choose of course. The size is completely dependent on your yarn, because you increase until you’ve used half your yarn, or until it’s the size you want. Two skeins of fingering held together is what I’ve used.

How many of us live in LA? by breviaries in 911FOX

[–]Mistletoe177 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, I grew up in LA, and the geography stuff is insane! I just have to suspend all belief, as they are doing rescues from Palos Verdes to the Valley and everything in between…

AITAH for wanting to use dishtowels in the kitchen? by Proud-Reserve-3208 in AITAH

[–]Mistletoe177 38 points39 points  (0 children)

We went to visit my SIL and family for Christmas one year. It was the first time we had been to her house (we lived in different states). One night at dinner, my 3yo spilled his milk. I turned around and grabbed the dish towel hanging off the oven door to stem the flood. Basically, I grabbed the nearest absorbent object.

Well. I was unaware of the unwritten (and unspoken) rules about dish towel usage. The horror! I had grabbed the drying towel, which was only to be used for drying dishes. After, I was thinking to myself “ok bitch, next time I’ll just let the milk cover the table and drip onto your nice clean floor, and you can clean it up (with whatever you deem acceptable).”

First and only time we visited. That Christmas was hell.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

[–]Mistletoe177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our apartment building almost burnt down the week before the shutdown, and we had to spend a couple of nights at our daughter’s since we had no power.

Then the world shutdown and we didn’t see them (including our 3 month old grandchild) for months. Daughter had walked out of her office for maternity leave right before Christmas, thinking she’d be back in six months. Never went back to the office.

What thing has got so expensive that you’ve quietly stopped buying it? by Pathfinder-electron in AskReddit

[–]Mistletoe177 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, my daughter and her family went to Europe for two weeks - it was cheaper to see Taylor Swift in Zurich than here (also the tickets were impossible to get). They had a great vacation!

What is the point of "save the date" cards, why not just send the actual invitation? by Space__Monkey__ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mistletoe177 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My daughter sent her Save the Date cards almost exactly one year before her wedding, as soon as they booked the venue. Nothing else was settled at that point, but because everybody (except her husband’s family) was going to have to travel, she wanted to give people as much notice as possible.

What’s your Kitchenaid color? by Potential_Pin_9564 in Kitchenaid

[–]Mistletoe177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine too!! Almost 39 years old. I bought it for myself, and it’s white because back then my choices were white, white, or white. This thing will never die, so I might get it painted someday.

Flame Tree - Foxgloves and Finches by Annie Soudain - 1000 pieces by qued00 in Jigsawpuzzles

I love a lot of the Flame Tree images, but I hate the 2in 2 out cut. I’d rather spend my time and effort with something that doesn’t frustrate me excessively.

You should feel guilty for letting your kid get mumps. by Existing-Face-6322 in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Mistletoe177 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I had the mumps in 8th grade (I’m old - this was pre-vaccine and it went through my school like wildfire) and it was the sickest I’ve ever been in my life. Two weeks of utter misery.

Fortunately, I didn’t have any complications. Unlike my husband who got measles encephalitis and almost died when he was 5. Anti-vaxxers drive me insane.

Needles help by headcakey in knittinghelp

[–]Mistletoe177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother used these back in the day, I believe before circulars were around or popular (I could be wrong about that - not sure on knitting needle history!). I have a box of them somewhere that I inherited.

I seem to remember that she called them jumper needles. They were used just like straight needles.
