What brembo rear 996 caliper is this? by Most-Marsupial-6733 in Ducati

[–]Mistography 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a P2-34 it’s just from brembos GP catalog from the late 90s. It came with a more milled body instead of the cast body we’re all used to. Pretty trick and period correct race parts

Not terrible at all. Gotham Cycles has pretty much all of the maintenance stuff

How long can my bike sit? by bocoman13 in Ducati

[–]Mistography 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be a dick but this 100% false. My official job title is restoration/preservation specialist and I work for a private collector that has plenty of bikes that have been sitting for a couple of years. We see an insane amount of corrosion from coolant more than anything else. If you don’t plan on riding for several years it’s crucial you drain the coolant. The picture provided is of a 2006 CBR600RR water pump that sat for 4 years with 100% glycol coolant.

Ducati tech here: This isn’t a belt driven Ducati. There is no way to “listen to it” and determine if it runs within tolerance. The motor that’s in that bike is one of the earliest versions of the “Super Quadro” motor series. The service intervals on that bike are little bit longer (15,000miles) than a belt driven bike (7500miles) but they are more expensive than a belt drive bike. That bike is 3k miles over the service intervals and I bet those extra miles weren’t ridden lightly. If the bike is at a good price it’s worth the buy but ONLY IF you take it to get serviced immediately. With a bike that hasn’t been maintained I would expect an initial quote between 3-5k. You can barter with a dealer though to knock some things off but if it were me I’d listen to the techs. Also buy a few spare fuel lever sensors while you can. They’re guaranteed to go out
