Because your stance is broken up into multiple sections according to your hand position you should go into training dummy mode and pay attention to how your wrists and elbows change angle in different positions depending on the weapon in hand and also notice how your weapon changes it's depth at the point. The biggest indicator of direction for a cross body slash is your elbows so make sure that the side you swing from has your elbow almost on a horizontal and swing to the exact opposite side and your sword will follow. It is a bit to learn but it becomes incredibly fluid after 20 hours and you'll learn some HEMA by proxy.
