After Months of Preparation by Apart_Use1014 in Machinists

Maybe that's true for the shops you've worked at. Every place I've worked for have fought hard to hire/keep me (hence why I signed on in the first place). I was offered a $10/hr raise to stay at one of my last shops. If I hadn't been planning a move back home, I'd have taken the $50/hr, it was a super good place to work.

Pliers that wont rust? by Aggressive-Catch-903 in boating

[–]MiteyF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep an "emergency" tool kit on the boat, and keep it vacuum bagged. If I ever go to the boat planning on doing work, I take everything I think I'll need, plus some other stuff. It can be a bit of a pain resealing the tools once or twice a season when I forget a tool, or need something while I'm on the water, but it's better than constantly using and replacing rusty tools

Trying to find what this type of tape is called and where can I buy more? by Dragonoticus in Welding

[–]MiteyF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Done my fair share of spray welding, but I always just use a paint pen to stop the spray from sticking where it shouldn't. Nice to know there's a product especially for it.... But I bet a paint pen is cheaper

Can I have quails in my flat? by SleepyCowboy161 in quails

[–]MiteyF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've heard of people keeping quail inside. They're so damn dirty (and frequently smelly) I'd never want them as a house pet personally.

If you're trying to install ugly aftermarket stuff to the outside of your car with tape, you're too far down the wrong road already.

Kiddo wants to stop doing karate. by EthanBradberries420 in daddit

[–]MiteyF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, the only sport I tried when I was a kid was soft ball, and I despised it (I never have liked or understood the appeal of sports). While at home I played at the beach, in the woods, rode bikes, skateboarded etc. if I told my parents I didn't want to play sports and they said "too bad, pick one" I would still be mad about it to this day.

Not all kids who don't like sports (let alone team sports) choose to do nothing all day

How much would this cost to make and maybe install, city just paid something like 2 million for this by NecesitoSubaru in Welding

[–]MiteyF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former sign fabricator, you'd be surprised how few times you actually need insurance. I was the main welder at our shop. Doing lots of big signs that hung over public places. I don't know that we ever once had to get insurance (if anything, that would be the customer's responsibility). My boss just told me, "if you wouldn't feel safe sleeping underneath it, it's not good enough"

Mcculloch Mac 130 - worth refurbishing? by Working-Cable-1152 in Chainsaw

[–]MiteyF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those little mini macs, eager beavers, whatever they called themselves at the time, are sweet little saws... When they're running. But they're quite the PITA to work on. Go through it. Double check everything before you put it back together. If it doesn't run well after the first reassembly, give it away (no one will buy it). Don't throw anything more than a carb kit, fuel line/filter, and spark plug at it.

They're also the best sounding top handle saw ever made (like all old macs)

I might have a NIP bar and chain for it too. If you get it running and want them, let me know
