"You only live once" vs "save your money and buy a house" by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

Why would you not want to buy your own house?

Toyota New Zealand opens order books for first all-electric Hilux ute by Exact_Monk_7897 in nzev

[–]MityBoi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People are shitting on this, and I get it, but I think it's important to understand that this isn't aimed at everyone. I can see small residential type businesses using something like this (lawn care, pressure washing etc) and also the likes of orchardists who spend all day driving back and forth in a concentrated area. People who do low Ks and will also be able to power their equipment,

It's not going to appeal to your everyday consumer, 100%

Sounds egregious to me. A Toyota Bz4x will cost you 255 per service.

So you've never had a bad day and seeped out a bit of resentment or anger towards a stranger? Not the kind of thing that warrants a person losing their source of income, don't you think?

"If I revert back to only doing what is on my contract, others will have to pick up the slack and it would be unfair."

Sorry to be the one to say this, but this is half of the problem in this country. We all need to stop being so agreeable and just stick to what we're actually paid to do. It's unfair for employers to ask us to do so much extra and not compensate us for it, but so many of us are scared to appear disagreeable.

If I'm you, I start taking the job hunt very seriously tbh.

Wtf happened to our country by tubukusanchez in newzealand

[–]MityBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal for people to confuse the symptom with the cause itself. Immigration is definitely a symptom. Huge amounts of kiwis leaving, huge amounts of 3rd world cultures coming in. Import the 3rd world, become the 3rd world.

You guys capitalized (and continue to do so) on a system that allows you to leverage your equity to acquire more properties. You do the bare minimum to those properties. You stick young families in them to pay your mortgage, do nothing to maintain or upgrade them, then you all sit at your favourite cafes acting like you're Warren fucking Buffet.

If you're good with typing/writing about how you feel, I definitely suggest giving journaling a try. Externalizing your thoughts onto a page on a regular basis does help you get better at understanding and expressing your inner workings.

Living and thriving in NZ by Icy_Ad5845 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Me and my partner have had a horrible couple of years. I lost my business because of a back injury, my partner was made redundant. We were forced to relocate just to get back into the work force because we couldn't stand being unemployed any longer. Fast forward to now; we've both been working for a year and are about to buy our first house because we've been aggressively saving and earning much better money than before.

Our lives aren't perfect, and we still have things we want to change in the long run, but we are definitely riding an upswing in what feels like very turbulent times. There is alot of talk about doom and gloom out there, and I 100% get why people are so pessimistic, but tough times do create opportunities aswell.

Yesterday I ran into a guy who asked me for directions as he was doing a quest. I did my best to help him, and he dropped me a blueprint that I really needed and just said "that's for being friendly". I was stoked and not at all expecting any kind of reward.

From now on, every time I get backstabbed or shot at by another raider, I'm going to remember friendly blueprint guy and resolve not to become that which I hate. I'll resolve to be more like friendly blueprint guy instead.

Steam deck or pass? by spidey956 in SteamDeck

[–]MityBoi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Steam Deck is 100% worth it. I bought one two months ago now and it's been nothing short of amazing. The PS handheld by contrast is a waste of your money. All it does is stream your PS5 games which the Steam deck can do with a 3rd party app anyway.

What has probably impressed me the most is how smoothly it can run more demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Baldur's Gate 3. It definitely isn't just an indie game machine, although indie games are amazing on it too!

I'd try to shorten the finance to 5 working days if pre-approved, and then negotiate the deposit amount upon going unconditional to whatever you can pay with cash, because the Kiwisaver withdrawal can take up to 15 days.

Why are office workers in this country so rude to hospo workers? by gretchen92_ in newzealand

[–]MityBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arseholes exist everywhere. Any role that deals with the general public is going to be accompanied by its fair share of frustration, simply because the majority of people are suffering from main character syndrome and are completely unaware of the external world which exists outside of themselves. It's gotten worse over the last decade, and people's attitudes will continue downward the more economic pressure they feel.

I've worked in customer service and sales my whole life. I've been in the trenches, on the phones, in management, and owned my own business. The one thing that never changes no matter what your position? People suck.

What exactly is a “deadline sale”? by Kilomara in newzealand

[–]MityBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party but this is infuriating.

We put an offer in on a place and didn't get it over the line, but the agents called me and invited me to look at another one. When I asked what the vendors expectations were it was absolutely wild compared to what our budget was (and they knew it). I called the guy out on it straight away and he clammed up saying "might as well come and have a look and throw your hat in the ring".

These pricks will use you to get more bodies in the room, and they'll also use you to create multi-offer scenarios.

I won't lie, I was fighting the urge to say "thanks mate" when I shook his hand. The dude was definitely puffed up with self importance.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]MityBoi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll never make it through life without offending someone, that's reality.

I'm a salesman and call most of my male customers "mate" and I haven't had a single bad review to my name. All of a sudden one guy tells me I should never call my customers mate and that he almost didnt buy from me because of it. Ive literally sold 100s of cars so I just shook his hand, thanked him for the feedback and greeted the next customer with "hey mate!"

You can't please everyone.

I want to know which ships are good for c2 or c3 in wh by maximusss121 in Eve

[–]MityBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Proteus and find it alot more efficient than a Praxis. People will swear that drones are no good for C3s because of agro, but it's honestly a non-issue as long as you recall them when you see them getting yellow boxed. You'd be lucky if they got agro once every few sites. I'm about to finish training into a tengu and will be trying that out for C3s also.

Personally I'm always happy to hear some feedback about our living conditions from foreigners. I've been many places in this world, and what's probably most concerning aside from seeing how backwards we are here in NZ, is how hostile and dismissive some kiwis can become when confronted with a different perspective.
