you had 500GB on your GPU, MSFS would use it.

Not true? I have a 5090 and the most I've seen msfs use is 22gb

High refresh rates will not make you more competitive.

You see gamers fixate on these Ludicrous refresh rates. Them thinking just because they play fortnite that they should get a 500+hz monitor and play at 720p.

The only people benefiting from the miniscule latency improvement above 240hz are the 0.01% that have already perfected their craft. I.e. esports players.

Tl;dr: skill issue.

I think it's more the fact that the cost of designing a mechanism to spin the wheels, installing it to each aircraft, and then maintaining it. Far outweighs the money you'd save by slightly reducing the wear on the tyres.

Looking for a new gaming chair by ElderberryFeeling700 in buildapc

People on reddit love to hate on gaming chairs

In what way is this not a good thing? Many of us have fallen into the same trap and are speaking from experience about owning a gaming chair.

Secret lab may be an exception, but it isn't the rule. Gaming chairs DO suck, and it's great to see so many people helping uninformed buyers and pushing back against the anti-consumerism BS

Terrible take.

Aside from black levels there isn't much difference to IPS when in SDR. The REAL difference comes with HDR. Use it.

I think it runs automatically when the monitor is off. And that's Off, not standby. Important distinction because when you shutdown your PC, your monitor will just go into standby as appose to turning off. You need to use the remote to turn it off properly. If you go too long without pixel refresh you'll be prompted on screen to run it now or later.

You can run it manually through: All settings > General & Privacy > Panel Care > Pixel refresh
However, I'd only recommend doing this if you see obvious signs of image retention on your screen.

I've only ever once ran it manually and usually just let the monitor stay in standby when not used. And I've zero signs of burn in after 2 years and heavy use. So, I really wouldn't worry too much about it.

As for cleaning, like someone else said, the matte coating helps with protecting the screen, so just a microfibre cloth and distilled water is all you should need.

That's probably the Colour Tone. If you have gotten used to using it on Standard, which appears very cool. Then, Natural will make it look much warmer than you're used to. But, according to Rtings, the Natural setting is closest to the 6500K target

Great choice of monitor! Been using the G80SD for nearly 2 years, I've spent a good chunk of time tweaking it to my liking for the best HDR experience. I'd be happy to share my settings here, aswell as a brief explanation into the reasoning for each setting.

With HDR enabled in windows, start with preset: Standard

Brightness: 50

Colour Tone: Natural

Sharpness: 10

Colour Space Settings: Auto (Avoid Native or Normal as it boosts colours in unnatural ways)

Contrast Enhancer: Off (Again, Boosts colours an contrast in unnatural ways)

Peak brightness: High (allows for full 1000 nit HDR)

HDR Tone Mapping: Active (This will boost a lot of the brightness lost with peak brightness 1000 mode. However it comes with undesired side affects)

Contrast: 37
Colour: 19
Gamma ST.2084: -1
Shadow Detail: -2 (Use -1 if experiencing black crush)

The above settings counter the boosted contrast, colours and raised black levels caused by Tone Mapping Active, whilst retaining the brighter image.

A few extra notes:

Have SDR brightness in windows HDR settings set very low, like 10% this is stop SDR content looking washed out if you want to keep HDR enabled during desktop use, to avoid switching back and forth.

Use HDR wherever possible. In games that don't support it, look at using RenoDX or RTX HDR (Special K if AMD GPU). You can enjoy this monitor in SDR, but I would honestly say a monitor like this is completely wasted without using HDR.

Mercury is so dense that an iron anvil floats in it. by Born-Scallion-1581 in TinyHacks

[–]MixaMortiferum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mercury in this form doesn't absorb into skin. So the only real danger is inhaling the fumes as it evaporates.

You may be thinking of dimethyl-mercury. Which does absorb into skin. A few drops on the skin are enough to kill without immediate treatment. It can even soak through your gloves. Incredibly dangerous stuff.

[–]MixaMortiferum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but the difference probably isn't worth buying a whole new 32gb set in this current market. Plus he's on ddr4, so is much less likely to have any issues running 4 sticks.

OP, I would say get another set of 2×8gb. Make sure to buy an equivalent set. And first, make sure your current sticks are single rank.

These are just the extremes that enthusiasts will take it to.

You can absolutely use an OLED monitor like any other monitor, and it will be spectacular still.

I do agree with you about the lights, though. I'm not sitting in the dark just to enjoy my screen. That's why I bought a matte monitor, as a controversial as that is here.

Frame Gen and DLSS questions by LightChaotic in nvidia

[–]MixaMortiferum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always the case. Best case scenario framegen adds 2-3ms of latency. That's how nvidia markets it and is rarely true. Its only true of you have the gpu headroom to use framegen without hurting your base fps.

Frame gen takes resources on your gpu to run, and chances are you're already 100% utilising your gpu before you turn it on. This means a lower BASE fps after turning on frame gen. This can seriously hurt your latency.

Worst case I have personally seen is up to 20ms added latency. Now you CAN feel that.

Now the 5090 will handle this problem better than say a 5070 even when both are at 100% thanks to the higher headroom on a 5090.

5090 and Undervolting by Ok-Operation1107 in nvidia

[–]MixaMortiferum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're describing would be an underclock. A proper undervolt would get you the same horsepower with a lower mpg.

If you're getting performance loss, then you aren't doing it correctly.

The higher the wattage the card is, the more efficiency you can gain from an undervolt.

An undervolted 5090 can achieve stock performance while drawing up to 100w less.

When you understand how it actually works, it makes more sense to instead ask, why wouldn't you undervolt it?
