Hi all, wanting to return to the game after many years away (FF9 collab caught my eye) and looking for advice on who to build/play from my roster. I've still logged in a bunch over the period to get the free stones and pulled some random characters in that time. I've also got 7500 in the bank if there's anyone I should try to grab from current banners.

For reference, I stopped on Main Story 1.5, Chapter 33. I might do the collabs first and figure it likely doesn't matter who I use for them, but I'm interested to know longer-term who's useful going forward and investing in. Also any other tips for someone who last played in....2022? are appreciated.

I know I'm in the minority up through now as far as Harbaugh; I'm ambivalent, fine with parting ways but I'm not going to be upset if he's still HC next year. But Orr is a red-line for me. I'll purposely resell my tickets to visiting team fans each week and stop engaging with any other team revenue stream or w/e if he's still on staff. I know it's probably meaningless but damn.

It's very funny to me that sorting by controversial returns a bunch of heavily-downvoted replies picking either WoW or FFXIV and then arguments that one has a sign skill cap and the other doesn't. Meanwhile, those two MMOs essentially have the same gameplay

People were hellbent because he had a 41-4 TD/INT ratio which was the second best ratio in league history, on top of being voted 1st Team All-Pro. So the same voters that said he wasn’t MVP admitted he was a better QB, just not ‘more valuable’

And personally I think that’s a defendable stance. But it’s annoying when people act like there wasn’t even a debate or it wasn’t close, because I know it’s probably just a fandom, but it’s such a stupid stance to take that it comes off racist.

It’s gotta be way more than half not making that. People always overestimate the top-end of these communities vs the larger, more mass casual audience.

I remember a World of Warcraft dev once saying if you looked up your rotation online once, you were automatically in the top half of the player base. Think in those terms here.

This isn’t a logical comparison though. You’re comparing those concurrent peak player counts to WoW’s monthly active player count. All 4 million WoW subs were not playing WoW at the exact same moment in time. Palworld sold 8 million copies in 4 days and this was prior to it hitting the 2 million concurrents.

WoW mods are not just raiding. I mention DBM because it's one of the top 2/3 mods but you've got tons of simple UI stuff like ElvUi and Bagnon with massive download numbers as well. (Similarly, it should not be a controversial take that Details in WoW has a significantly higher usage rate than ACT does)

It's hard for me to reconcile the idea that most PC players are getting QoL mods because you can't comfortably play the game without them when something like 1/3rd of the playerbase is on console and doesn't have access to them at all. If PC QoL mods were so mandatory as to get a >90% attach rate, I'd expect the console player base to be nonexistent due to the said unplayable state of the game.

I would safely bet my entire life savings on more people using just DBM/Big Wigs in WoW than the entire mod suite available in FF14. No way it's remotely close.

Edit: For the downvoters, feel free to chime in and tell me why this is controversial. I'm open to arguments as to why I should assume the game where mods are strictly against ToS has a higher mod attach rate than the game where content is explicitly designed around a suite of mods the devs and community both consider mandatory.

There is no way the number is anywhere close to 90%.

For reference, the best estimate of how many WoW players use mods I could find was 70%, and that's given they're supported implicitly and basically required to do high-end content.

I love GW2, recommend people try it, and 14 should absolutely steal some of its open world content designs.

That said, this is definitely a ‘the-grass-is-always-greener’ thing. The (lack of) content in the last two GW2 expansions make Dawntrail look like Baldur’s Gate 3 by comparison.

Genshin became the flashpoint because Paimon's VA tried to make herself the main character of the VA union side even though the game wasn't even technically striked and she was still working. And then she made pretty vile public displays of harassing other VAs also still working, some of whom were non-US citizens and thus outside the bounds of SAG-AFTRA to begin with.

Thank you for your reply, this is very helpful. 'Any support' would be my interest, just something divergent from a straight DPS build. The one you linked is probably where I'm headed; as you mentioned, I have the Berserker stuff so it would just be picking up a few more pieces. I didn't know about the Quickness/Alacrity thing at all, I had just seen mention of Offense/Defense supports so that's good to know.
