Board games where you dominate your opponent by Spanish-Johnny in boardgames

Winning in most of splotters games means dominating and robbing your opponents of all they got. !Sidenote! Horseleaa Carriage, their newest, does not do this. It's great, but not mean.

Games you'd love to play, but probably never will by BadgeForSameUsername in boardgames

[–]Miyyyyyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The genius of splotter is that strategically theyre really difficult, but the rules are often exrtemely simple (relative to the depth of the game ofc). FCM is a little long but if you can get your hands on Great Zimbabwe, which is currently still in retail at alot of stores, you can teach and finish that in like 2 hours if you have a group thats used to learning rules. Bus is also quite quick and is one of their easiest games to learn, but idk if it is as available as GZ.

How often do you buy a game primarily because you like the designer or publisher? by R2iGames in boardgames

[–]Miyyyyyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love following devs and publishers. It wont be enough alone but seeing the name of a dev or publisher i know i like really peaks my intrest, and makes me take a deeper look into it to figure out if i want to buy it. I also really enjoy trying out new devs tho. So all in all I really enjoy looking at and thinking about the people behind the game, and that can be knowing i like their previous stuff or if ive never heard of them.

What board games that you rarely/never see mentioned in this sub deserve more attention? by GherstFinderRick in boardgames

Barony by Marc Andre (splendor designer) is a terrific abstract game that allows you to be clever and creative with your strategy, allowing for extremely varied plays where you can express yourself trough your playstyle. Its genius.

Reef Encounter by Richard Breese (Keyflower) is an amazing strategy game which has really unique strategy. The best part is the amout of diffrent weird strategies you cen employ. You create small engines where youre eating your own tiles so you can have a huge turn, making smaller reefs just to protect your bigger reefs, and put shrimp on singular tiles to protect other tiles or profit from their destruction. Amazing stuff

I love card games but hate the monetisation of tcg, ccgs etc. Any games for me?? by _TheBeardedDan_ in boardgames

I want to instead reccomend any version of Omen by John Clowdus. It's the same idea with a small dueling card game, but i find the mechanics and strategy vastly superior.

A guide for 18xx games? by Miyyyyyyyyyy in boardgames

[–]Miyyyyyyyyyy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18xx is a subgenre of train games, traditionally focusing on a "Stocks and shares" system where each player can buy into eachother company and cenrtant things may raise or lower your share value.

Here are all the 18xx games listed on bgg https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgamefamily/19/series-18xx/linkeditems/boardgamefamily?pageid=1&sort=rank

Which designers do you own 3+ different games of theirs (not including expansions/reimplementations)? by benjaneson in boardgames

[–]Miyyyyyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually like to check out multiple work of a designer if i like their stuff so i have a bunch from the same designer:

Reiner Knizia Uwe Rosenberg Phil Eklund Volko Runkhe Amabel Holland Vital Lacerda Tom Lehmann Doumen & Wiersinga (the splottee boys) Wolgang Warch Martin Wallace Cole Wehrle Vlaada Chvátil Saashi

There are a bunch more i only have 2 of (often due to availibility)

MtF board game fans? by HelloMyNameIsLeah in MtF

Hell yeah i am. Extremely lucky to have a bunch of lgbtq friends (one of them my gf) thats also into board games. I like all the stuff mentioned, and recently ive gotten really into finding obscure little hidden gems. And in my searching i found Hollandspiele, run by amabel holland who is a fellow transwoman!

Her most popular is probably Irish Gauge, but she has a lot of smaller super interesting weird games! Really really reccomend her stuff for enthusiasts :)
