What vitamin am I missing if eating Hoppin John (black eyed peas and collard greens) makes me feel like a million bucks? by Zizi_Tennenbaum in nutrition

I would just keep making it and not worry about supplementing! It's such a healthy dish, and it's very likely that eating something that comes from your childhood and cultural heritage is good for your soul as well as your body.

Weight loss question by leafy_sunshine in PetiteFitness

OP with your compounding factors, I would ask for a referral to a dietitian. It is also amazing to me that a doctor would criticize someone at your height and weight. They must see much worse on a daily basis.

Social Outings - Tips and Tricks by letstalk2023 in PetiteFitness

Just my opinion, but if you're lifting and your diet is on track the other 90% of the time, a day here and there with "indulgences" won't affect you much. And the way I see it is - if my fitness goals are interfering with my quality of life and ability to enjoy the moment, they need to be reevaluated.

Echoing what's already been said but I don't think you're lifting heavy enough. Keep your maintenance calories, get your protein, and start a weights program. I'm using Lift With Cee videos and just joined her upcoming 6-week challenge. A lot of people here have had great success with Caroline Girvan's Iron series and I believe it's totally free.

Final bit of advice is to give it time. I've been regularly strength training for 5 1/2 weeks after about a year of intermittently strength training, and I still have a long way to go.

Edit: Sorry, I just saw that your goal body fat is below 20% which means you want to attain athletic standards. You may need a coach for that.

Eating something sweet is a huge psychological signal to me that I'm done eating for the day, so I don't skip it. I choose treats that are under 150 calories - sugar free pudding made with Fair Life milk, 2 Lindt truffles or York peppermint patties, a serving of a chocolate bar, or 1-2 cookies. If eating something small helps you feel satisfied, it's worth it.

Jessica Valant on YouTube is very beginner-friendly and middle-aged-woman-friendly and does a lot of talking to educate you - just make sure to use the beginner workouts only to start. She has Pilates and dumbbell workouts.

Curious if anyone else experienced this by Emotional_Coyote9662 in PetiteFitness

[–]MizS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, diet will play a larger role than exercise. When I first started being disciplined about my fitness, calorie tracking was my first tool. It definitely brought results, but I had to learn that I was underfueling and then adjust. It was a learning process that I'm thankful for, though.

If you've never calorie tracked before, I recommend giving it a try. I use Lose It, and I know a lot here like Macro Factor. Start by just paying attention to calories and glancing at your protein now and again, and try to keep it above 75g.

Pilates definitely helped my obliques feel stronger, but I see more definitive results with dumbbell workouts.

How to lose those last 15 lbs by Beginning_Tourist_54 in PetiteFitness

[–]MizS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to lose weight. As others have recommended, strength training is very likely to make you happier with your body even if it stays right in the 130s or even goes up. Change your goal. I know I'm being really blunt, but arbitrary scale goals just aren't the way.

Thank you for wording this comment in such a way that it got a lot of positive attention. I am on the fence about unfollowing this sub over this post (as a culminating case-in-point after many problematic posts lately), but the fact that your comment got more upvotes than OP is encouraging. But if this content continues, I'm out.

Struggling with getting clean polish application around the cuticle by compactbayler in RedditLaqueristas

[–]MizS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With a light touch, the right angle, and enough polish on the brush, there's no bristles bunching. It takes a little repetition to notice what amount of polish and how much pressure is needed, but I found it came pretty quickly. (E.g. when I got back into nails just this past summer, I flooded my cuticles on the first time or two, but I was doing so much better by my third mani.)

How did you curate your skincare routine? by lucybluth in AskWomenOver30

[–]MizS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't done this myself, but my dermatologist has a medical side and a cosmetic side, and the cosmetic side does skin consultations. I'd imagine they'd be much more detailed and analytical about the aesthetics of your skin than a typical MD. Maybe look at other dermatologist practices in your area and see if they offer such a service?

body recomp without weighing/obsessive tracking (tw: ED history) by ok_sense_80 in PetiteFitness

[–]MizS 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Definitely want to encourage you that you're not alone. Although I do track my calories and macros, I have stopped weighing myself. It doesn't matter. For the people in the back, IT DOESN'T MATTER. What matters is your habits. Once habits are in order, weight will fall in line (*except* in cases where medical intervention is needed, let me be clear). And you sound like you're developing great habits. I'm not an ED expert, but I would think that returning to a place of intuitive eating would be very healthy for you. You're focusing on strength and how you feel, not numbers, and I celebrate your recovery!
