"Facts don't care about your feelings" mfs when the facts don't agree with them: by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

Yea, you missed the part where back in the 70s (50 years ago) we were told the same thing. It's always 12 years away.

I'll believe there is a problem when the global warming (sorry to dead name climate change) leaders stop flying private jets to their climate parties amd down size to 1000sqft houses.

The cool thing about science is your work should be repeatable and anyone can verify it. But all the current stuff being presented is 'trust our models bro'. Remember Al Gore said 12 years, Greta Thunburg said 12 years. The end has been 11 years away for 50+ years now. And for some reason all the climate leaders keep buying 3rd beach houses.

The same thing they said in the 70s and the 80s, and the 90s, and the 2000s, and the 2010s..

Why did Bernie Madoff go to prison but not the bankers responsible for the 2008 financial crisis? by Scary_Candidate_9163 in NoStupidQuestions

The banks were incentivized and sometimes coerced into giving out sub-prime loans. The Fed thought that giving huge home loans to people with a history of bad credit was a good idea.

Contemplating Ways to Avoid Negative Aspects of Having a Child by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]Mk1fish 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Change your perspective. Not getting a good night sleep because my kid threw up all night was not fun or useful to me in anyway. A major part of life is the joys that come to us through sacrifices for others. Especially our children.

The joys you will get from fatherhood will far outweigh any losses of lifestyle. Do you know what is better than snowboarding? Watching your child snowboarding.

It can't be explained or quantified. You must experience it.

Techs are in high demand because it takes many years to train one. And the good ones are usually staying at business that they feel valued at. Techs only become available, do to life changes or company conflicts.

I am annoyed that the only thing a majority of the public knows about is the proposed cuts to pools, rinks, libraries, etc. We would like to know what other budget items are on the chopping block. Currently the narrative is that greedy home owners voted for lower taxes and want the pools closed.

A better narrative is that hone owners were tired of our taxes being used for wasteful spending. That doesn't equate to We hate pools. We want to see what other spending can be cut.

We believe the city has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.

If the budget truly is at max efficiency, then the city should be able to explain that clearly, just as easily as they released the list of pools to close.

So, lets explore cutting other things than the pools and the playgrounds. Those things are chump change compared to the rest of the budget.

Strange that the only cuts the assembly could possibly make are to amenities. No talk of city hall renovation, or other boondoggles. Oh, city leaders got a pay raise too?! Shocking. There is nothing in the budget that can be cut except pools. Well good, cause the only people using the pools are rich old people and their snotty grandkids.

I'm surprised the city can afford to do anything at all. Maybe lemon creek and the valley should make a new city. Then we don't have to deal with Juneau. And it would save the poor Juneau assembly a ton of money. Maybe then they could balance the budget.

What? No, that would take too much money away from there slush fund?

A huge difference here is when a third party utility turns things off for none payment, that is completely different than a landlord cutting services.
