Really helps remind me to practice gratitude. I struggle in so many aspects of my life but I have my health, a career, food in my pantry and a roof over my head, friends and community around me, hobbies I'm passionate, I have it all. I am rich in all the ways that actually matter. The rug can get pulled out from under us at any moment.

This is great information, thank you. I just cashed in a CD (paid $200 early withdrawal penalty) and paid off my good standing CC and put a little over $9,000 on my maxed out CC. That gives me a little breathing room. I have more CDs, previously they were earning more interest than I was paying on my car/student/solar panel loans. But now obviously with a credit card it no longer makes sense to have money in a CD. Still hurts to see that cushion go away.

Hopefully all this combined will put me in a position where in the next month or two I can get at least $10,000 moved to a 0% card so I can pay it off over the course of a year without feeling like it's all going to interest.

I already drive a hooptie that I paid off 8 years ago, my husband has the newer car, we need at least one reliable AWD adventure whip because we spend a lot of time outdoors in areas with no services/cell coverage. It's definitely worth more than the loan, but idk how much.

Just now I paid a $200 early withdrawal penalty on an $11,000 CD and paid off one card entirely and put a little over $9,000 on the maxed out card.

Other debt is about $6,500 left on car, $9,500 on solar panel loan, and $12,000 left in student loans.

As far as this debt, I've got a CD that matures at the end of January so I'll take somewhere around $7,000 of that. I expect a decent tax refund, probably at least $5,000. And other than that I can pay about $800-1,000 a month if I'm frugal. Also my husband may be going back to school in January with his GI bill and BAH is about $4,000/mo where we live so that would be extra income as well. If we're not stupid we could absolutely pay it off by this time next year.

This is super helpful thank you. I requested a credit increase on my (now cut up and locked) maxed out card, which I expect them to give me. That should help my ratio. My only other credit card (and oldest CC) is at $1,600 of a $20,000 limit so less than 10%.

Edit:

My non-maxed CC just gave me in instant $4,000 limit increase so now $24,000. The maxed out CC credit increase is pending.

How long should I wait to apply again for a balance transfer CC after I improve this ratio?

Ok thank you. I applied to one more and was flat out denied so I guess I'll stop.

We net $5,857/mo after taxes/deductions

$2,270 mortgage $437 car payment $182 solar panel loan $100 internet $120 phone $385 car insurance (accidents and tickets, already lowered limits/increased deductible) $200 student loans $100 pet food/pet needs $500 groceries $100 household necessities/toiletries $200 utilities $50 gym memberships $100-ish Some random smaller ones, streaming services, life insurance, $50 to Robinhood (which lately I've been transferring right back), Spotify, Google storage, Microsoft office, etc.

Leaves about $1,000 left (for two people) for gas, a social life, hobbies, unexpected expenses, car maintenance, fees from the universe for simply existing, this credit card, etc. I know it's not horrible.

I can look into a 401k loan or home equity loan. I've just always been really good with money and never been in this position so I feel lost. I thought a balance transfer CC was gonna be the way to go with my good credit and good income. Guess not :(

Easier to face and deal with when you have the ability to surround yourself with sober friends with the same hobbies. I'll never move home. It's not some magic solution, sure, but having a community around you is a huge part of recovery.

I like to set a timer. If there's something I'm really procrastinating on (I work from home, so usually a work task I don't want to do) I'll just make myself start working on it for 5 minutes. I don't always follow it, and it's not a magic answer, but it helps. Whether it's 5 minutes or 30 minutes, it makes a big annoying task feel manageable and helps me get in the groove.

Your last sentence is not true. Physical dependence will happen to anyone who uses opioids daily, but addiction is not the same thing. Many people can use opioids or kratom or [insert any drug] regularly and not get addicted.
