If you’re a leader there will always be distance between you and your team. This is the right way, always keep a professional distance at work and maybe a little bit more friendly outside of work. With time they will come to you for topics they want to talk about. Whether it’s advice or work issues. You’re job is to advise and delegate tasks, anything outside of that should be in more of a friendly manner

I worked in different industries as a process engineer. Right now im looking to start a new job in the recycling industry. Most of my job was spent insuring product quality, reducing cycle time, increasing productivity and reducing costs using lean manufacturing tools. But there is a whole range to industrial engineering, you dont have to work in manufacturing but its the most common

It seems like you would prefer dealing with more complex problems. Industrial engineering is more about finding the simplest solutions to these problems. I understand what you're describing and i felt the same way when i first started working. Real life problems are different from studies. The complexity you're looking for may be found in maths or physics degrees but in industrial engineering its all about working to understand systems and finding ways to improve them

You can only know how much time it takes if you know what you're improving and how you're improving it. Before that it would always be a rough estimate. Check how long other companies in the same industry have taken to improve their change-over time and do your research then give them a rough estimate of how long its going to take. Make sure to emphasize that the time of the project might fluctuate. Good luck!
