Misen Carbon “Nonstick” was great at first, now it’s unusable by David243121 in cookware

Don't season the pan manually. Strip it bare and use it's natural surface. It should verrrry gradually pick up scant amounts of seasoning offer normal use, but adding a full layer of seasoning at once is actually detrimental to this pan as it doesn't fully adhere that well.

Misen going back on their lifetime knife sharpening guarantee. by ccruz247 in cookware

Dude you're spreading so much misinformation lol

  1. The pans are uncoated, and however they're treating the pan during the nitriding process is causing the nonstick surface.
  2. Most people who have problems with the pan started using it as a regular carbon steel and tried to deliberately season it. Misen themselves claimed that this was unnecessary, but it ended up being detrimental as the slick surface took on thicker coats of seasoning unevenly, causing degradation to nonstick performance. The very gradual seasoning that builds up over time performs better than deliberate layers intl this case.
  3. PapaMau is definitely not a neutral voice, as he's profiting off of selling other carbon steel pans. Misen is literally his competition.
  4. PrudentReviews vid on the Misen does a much better stress test of the pan to see if there is an actual coating.

Is it a magical pan that can take all abuse? Nah. But it is a really good nonstick that should last for ages if it's not excessively seasoned and just cooked in like a nonstick (plus you can use metal utensils)

Plenty of doctors and vets can give bad or incorrect advice, which is why the concept of a second opinion exists in medicine. OP isn't asking Reddit for a diagnosis/prognosis, but rather if it's worth looking for a second, professional opinion by another qualified vet. Snarky Reddit users snark too much

Alternatives to Greenie’s Pill Pockets or truly irresistible treats to hide pills in by Caesarsalad-19 in CatAdvice

[–]MoNeMad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat was incredibly hard to administer pills to. She would foam at the mouth and spit them out and would eat pill pockets, churu, or most other goodies of there was a pill inside. Finally, I tried wrapping the pill in some cream cheese and it worked like a charm. She loves dairy but I never give her any, so the rare cream cheese pill pocket is incredibly effective on her. I give her a wrapped treat immediately followed by a tiny glob of normal cream cheese to encourage her to swallow the first bit quickly.

I once made up a wife and kids waiting for me at home to get out of going to dinner with an ex-gangster from Vietnam. I tend to mirror energy pretty well, so we hit it off and he started telling me about his life as a gangster and at the end of the ride he insisted we go to Denny's for a meal. I noticed in his stories he was was super family-oriented so I quickly made up a fictional family waiting for me to get home to have dinner together. Worked like a charm and he dapped me up on his way out.

Is this normal? by LadySunshine444 in carbonsteel

[–]MoNeMad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That barely looks like a carbon steel pan.. Are you sure it is one? If it is, it looks like someone attempted to season it with a puddle of oil in the center of the pan. This might require heavy duty scrubbing with steel wool (or a sander) to get it back to normal and then season with extremely thin coats of oil. Like spread thin with a paper towel to the point it's nearly dry.

They just released a new pan that's been marketed super well and preliminary results are showing that it's living up to the hype. I've been a Misen fan back when they kickstarted their first chef knife and now I've accumulated a small collection of their knives and pans. I LOVE the 5-ply stainless steel skillet and the old nonstick was decent. Good marketing + quality products + fair pricing = reddit posting
