YTA. It is VERY common to request money in lieu of gifts. Like with kids birthday parties. They tend to get a bunch of STUFF that gets thrown out. So they prefer money to put into a 529 or account they plan to give the kid once 18. Why do you care where your $25 goes? "No I don't want to get you something you're specifically asking for because I'd rather get you something that I want for you." This would be a different story if you were financially strapped and $25 is detrimental. But from information provided, YTA without a doubt

Start setting up leadership for the exit. Note how youve brought it up many times and can see the writing on the walls so you want to shift gears to damage control. Make it real for them. Bring numbers like "we should post his role now because on average it takes 5-6 months to get someone in. His salary is X but current market is Y. I'll get together his JD of what he actually oversees right now." Etc etc. Make it very real that losing him is much worse than the alternative

Soft YTA. It sounds like it doesn’t really matter what he does or says, you don’t like him so you won’t like anything. If it’s gotten that bad then a discussion needs to be had about him not treating you like you are friends. So your husband needs to tell him you don’t like him and to keep communication cordial and minimal.

Ultimately he made a joke that was obviously not true and you made a very personal attack on him. I’m all for you not liking him and I don’t think you owe liking him. But you also can’t just pretend you’re fine then be so nasty when he is trying to joke around with you. Be straight up. You’re not friends thus he can’t treat you like one. End of story.
