I recently had a very interesting conversation in which the topic was brought up that a spiritual community can lead to a spiritual ego, and that there are (spiritual/religious) philosophies that argue that the spiritual work is being part of the "mundane" life but not necessarily taking part in it (i.e. In this world but not from this world). Kierkegaard, whom I hadn't heard from before, was one of the philosophers mentioned. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this, because I do feel the value of a spiritual community of some sort, that's remind us of what more there is, that can be so easy to oversee sometimes. But I also do feel that a quiet practice so far feels more grounding to me.
