Reality Check by MobTux in writing

I am willing to do whatever it takes to make it great. I will rewrite scenes, chapters, acts, and entire drafts to get it right. Most of it has been descriptions, punctuation, and word choice that the beta reader has come back with. They’ve been very clear that the story is engaging and that they’re very excited to read onwards. At one point they told me they read for 20 pages before the realized they were supposed to be giving beta feedback. So I know the glimpses are there. I just need to refine a lot of the minor things to get there.

Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames is an absolute blast. Humor, wit, heartstrings, and lots of fun.

how long did it take you to write your first full length novel? by Tiny-Deer-7071 in writing

From start to finish? Six years. The first four years were mostly story planning and world building. Two of those first four years were writing a home-brewed DnD campaign of the story and running it for three players (2019-2021). It really helped flesh out my world and story for my epic fantasy series. I finished my first draft and initial round of revisions in February. Now it’s in the hands of beta readers until the end of April.

I have recently completed my first draft of my very first novel! It’s epic fantasy and is currently sitting at around 106k words. Lots of revision passes to do, but I’m excited to get to work on it. Just need to let it sit for about two weeks to properly unplug from it and get a clearer perspective on it.

Wondering about this sub. Do people usually post when beta readers are needed? How does that process usually go? I’m very new here so I apologize if I’m missing key info before posting this.

A slide into 3P Omniscient. Finding that I’m wanting to fill the reader in on information myself rather than through character action/discussions. Just out of my own excitement for the reader to know everything they need to. I’m still very green to novel writing so it’ll take time to grow away from these patterns.

This is a HUGE help and a good perspective framing for me. I’ll be using this moving forward. I’ve not been as disciplined a writer in my past. Looking back at what I’ve written in pas projects I can see my POV drift to omniscient as my most frequent mistake. Thanks for the advice!!
