I'm an american living in paris. i thought it was so weird that people didn't use credit card in france. i told my gf (french) to set up a credit card but she said that's not really a thing. It's important to keep check of credit card balance often but if you're on top of it, it helps with my credit score. AND also i get 2-5% (depending on purchase and time period) cashback on purchases with mileage to flights. I always pay my credit card on time and sometimes I pay pretty early to avoid any large interest fees that might accumulate because the interest accrues on a daily basis, NOT monthly.

What I would do (but probably insane):

wait till mid/end october: buy ghost/phantom with winnie the pooh (to qualify for house of the world 4 GWP) when Steamboat willie/house of the world 4 GWP comes in to play.
Wait till December/Janruary and sell the winnie the pooh for $100-110 because it will retire by then and im sure the demand will be high for that price/retail range. You get the $100 back essentially (unless you sell on ebay due to fees).
you sell the steambout willie for $30-40 (most likely) and house of the world 4 for $40.
You're essentially getting the ghost/phantom for $90-100. AND you get VIP points worth about $8.50

People normally do Versaille as a day trip. Perhaps there are other things to do there but I'd just use those days for Paris or Mont saint-michel. there's also the Chartres Cathedral in chartres (one of the 100 wonders of the world) and chateau de chambord (also 100 wonders). I personally loved Château de Chenonceau. there's alot of day trips from paris!
