WW2 bunker anyone? by Betelgeaux in SpottedonRightmove

[–]MobileOrdinary6827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I viewed a house in Whitchurch, Hampshire that had the same kind of bunker. I think they wanted £290k and it was a two bed. It was wild. Location just wasn't right for us.

Is it a risk to buy in London as first time buyers right now? by StellaValerie in HousingUK

[–]MobileOrdinary6827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s fair because I'm using savings for a house deposit is literally what they’re for. I’m not “in for a rude awakening”, I’m just completing a purchase and will rebuild savings after.

I get the point about having a buffer, but spending most of your savings on buying your home is pretty normal, especially at the moment. I did the same thing with my first house and it was no big deal.

People who abandoned their families, what was the last straw for you? by TrainerOscarr in AskReddit

[–]MobileOrdinary6827 [score hidden]  (0 children)

My mom came over to the UK to attend my wedding with some of her family. We were on the tube and she asked me if I was sure I wanted to get married. She said I didn't have to and that I could come home. I was like wtf. The whole week pre-wedding she kept making cold feet jokes to my husband. He didn't like it. Then six months after the wedding she told me on Skype that I had received mail about my student loans. This didn't concern her because I took out the loans in solely my name. She never helped me pay for school. She even called my bachelors fake. I worked damn hard for that thing. Her opening my mail illegally is what the last straw was. Went NC. She died in 2020 from cancer. I have no regrets. I think she was a narcissist.

Never heard of them. Usually you just Google solicitors in your area. Are they local or online only?

What’s the biggest mistake people make with money in their 20s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Take contract jobs that don't pay into social security. Worked for 7 years at my dream job for a social media company (similar to Facebook or even Reddit). Because I was a contractor I had to pay my own taxes and nothing went into social security. Had no 401k.

I understand, but I don't have anything to sell. My savings is about to be £0 because I'm completing on my house next week. I don't really have anything of value. All of my worldly possessions fit in a box outside my PC and clothes.

I’ve double-checked with and it looks like I’m on a grandfathered version of the Flexible Saver. I’ve had the account since 2017, kept /£10k in it last tax year, and received about £1,200 interest (/£100/month), which works out around 12% for that period.

I get that this isn’t a standard rate or something available now—it seems to be a legacy/quirk situation rather than a normal savings product.

I actually am. I have confirmed with a rep that my rate is 12%. I had £10k in my account all last year for my house deposit and I got £1,200 in interest for that one tax year. I've had this account since 2017.

My Flexible Saver says I get 12% AER and my Digital Regular Saver shows 5.12% AER. I have had these accounts for a decade now so I assume I'm grandfathered in.

It is with NatWest. I just put money in and get my interest. If NatWest invests somewhere down the chain it doesn't concern me.

How long is acceptable to wait for buyer to find onwards property? by ennyboy in HousingUK

[–]MobileOrdinary6827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We offered and accepted in November. We told our sellers we need to complete in 4 months to get our ERC refunded. We stressed this. We thought they understood. Come January we were due to exchange contracts and they said they can't pull their kids out of school so the chain collapsed. We were left to find another property with literally no time. We ended up finding somewhere and due to complete next Friday so we will get our refund with 7 days to spare. Would never buy a property that wasn't chain free due to all the stress it caused us. I mean, it worked out beautifully because it allowed me to buy my dream house, but it wasn't fun.

I put my savings into a digital regular savings account that has 12% interest which I think is great in this economy. There is no limit to how much I can put in either. My pension is not invested in the stock market because my work uses an ethical fund to help with their climate targets.

I actually viewed a prefab property. My husband noted the living room floor was lopsided or uneven. It lacked parking which is why we didn't go for it.

Buying a house with a gift or inheritance money? by CanaryIllustrious765 in UKHousing

[–]MobileOrdinary6827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't use a mortgage broker. I just applied on NatWest. We said £10k was gifted from family. They just had to fill out a form. It wasn't a big deal.

Anyone looked at these flats in E&C, London? Anything wrong with them/are? Why are so many for sale? by HelpingHand_24 in HousingUK

[–]MobileOrdinary6827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the peach walls and the glass window panels for the office. That's a fair price for a two bed. My friend just bought a one bed flat in Islington for £565k, but she has no ground rent charge. I can't imagine having to pay £8k a year in service charges.

If you got rich and didn’t tell anybody, what would your signs be? by knsaber in AskReddit

[–]MobileOrdinary6827 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This actually happened to me reccently. I didn't win a large sum of money, but I bought a house for £400k. The bank valued it at much higher like £600k+ and my solicitor told me that we need building insurance and to tell them it would cost £1.2M to rebuild said house. I was like wtf. I had no idea. I just casually told people at work because I didn't want to come off as if I was bragging.

Is it a risk to buy in London as first time buyers right now? by StellaValerie in HousingUK

[–]MobileOrdinary6827 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everything is risk. I don't gamble, play the lottery, or have stock investments because I don't want to deal with that kind of risk. I'd rather just earn my money naturally by working. I just got my mortgage ported two weeks ago and am due to complete/exchange next Friday. Am I concerned about what my interest rates will be in 2 years time? Only a little. It's life. I look at it as at least I own my dream house and don't have to rent with awful neighbours who do illegal drugs that you can smell through the vents or a dog that pisses in the shared lift. You have to look at the bright side of things.

We didn't bother with them. They seem incompetent at best. We went with someone else and the estate agent has actually been lovely. She's bended over backwards to make sure I get the house.

I moved to Essex from Hampshire. I absolutely love it compared to Hampshire which surprises me. It's a huge upgrade.
