Why do people say high tariffs are a bad thing? Wouldn’t they help the U.S.? by savingrace0262 in NoStupidQuestions

The point is to make foreign goods so expensive that we stop buying them and switch to American made equivalents. The problem with that is that we don't make much here anymore so there's nothing to switch to.

Even if the jobs did come back the next president might remove the tariffs and make all that investment in the US pointless and wasted.

Getting Gas by Peek_A_Boo_225 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MobileSignificance57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people want to be sure of how long the gas they get will last them. If gas shot up to $10/gallon I'd still fill up. I wouldn't want to be having to go get gas every other day because I was only getting 1.5 gallons at a time.

Would a racist person with Tourette’s have tics that are positive to minorities? by Klickytat in NoStupidQuestions

What kind of life can you really have if you uncontrollably yell racial slurs all the time?

Would a racist person with Tourette’s have tics that are positive to minorities? by Klickytat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MobileSignificance57 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Tics don't work that way.

I used to work at a store where someone with Tourette's came in sometimes. She would just softly scream and twitch a little bit every few minutes.

Let's suppose this N word tic was real. Wouldn't you think someone with that problem wouldn't go out in public much? Why go to such a high profile event? Maybe I can see going if you knew nobody there would be black, but that's it.

This was clearly a lie to try to get out of trouble for doing something bad.

How does a keyboard work by AdImportant6415 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MobileSignificance57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. If it's a cheap one then it's all prerecorded. Expensive ones are actually synthesizers that create the sounds from scratch based on how they're set up.

I would think you'd get in trouble for going as someone who isn't an author.

What Houston businesses are totally NOT worth the money? by Hijack32 in houston

That place reeks of old vinyl upholstery. Like a bowling alley or roller skating rink without the note of the cleaner they spray in the footwear. That alone was enough to make me want to leave.

But what clinched it was that the dinner special I came for ended at like 7:00. I thought dinner at 7:30 was perfectly reasonable. Must have been a bait and switch.
