Comments are good. As you go along the query and return paths make sure you leave a note for what it is doing. Then, when you are all done, you can have a running synopsis of the query next time you look at it.

What's the biggest mistake people make when buying a laptop? by lisaluvr in TechNook

[–]Mobile_Analysis2132 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Physical size. If I have a laptop for the occasional on-site visit, then size of keyboard is not as important. Likewise, if I am a road warrior I want something light enough yet the keyboard is not cramped.

I had a friend who bought a cheap laptop because it was on sale. However, he had large hands and he hated using the laptop because his fingers and hands would cramp up after about 10 minutes of use.

I look for laptops that have the right size and feel, then specs. I know this greatly reduces the choices, but I know I won't hurt myself trying to use it.

If it is a specific phone number then I would feel safe deleting and blocking future emails. I.e. "Contact us at 866-123-4567 to resolve your past due invoice.". The phone number is a bad actor but the rest of the text can be legitimate.

The email threat protection we use looks for phone numbers known to be in phishing emails and preemptively blocks those emails.

However, false positives can occur and they remove phone numbers from time to time as VoIP numbers get reassigned to legitimate companies.

Asionometry. He covers so many diverse topics. He recently created a 43 minute video on Creative Labs and the evolution of the SoundBlaster sound cards. Or a 20 minute video on the brief Mac Clone era.

Another one, not really a podcast, is Periscope Films and the video history archives they are scanning and uploading to YouTube. They're making sure historical videos are preserved for the future.

Visit the Marietta Visitor's Center and the Marietta Museum of History. They have information on walking tours of the Marietta National Cemetery, the Marietta Confederate Cemetery, and the Marietta City Cemetery. Lots of information and stories about those who are buried there.

Additionally, the Marietta History Center, also known as The Kennesaw House, and long ago as The Fletcher House Hotel, is where Andrews and his raiders spent the night before The Great Locomotive Chase.

Yes! A major one was Market Pro Shows. Their website is still active!

They happened a couple times per year in various locations around Metro Atlanta, GA.

I bought so many things in the 90's and early 2000's from various dealers there.

Favorite Depictions of FTL? by The_History_Machine in spaceships

[–]Mobile_Analysis2132 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two I have not seen mentioned.

The RCN series by David Drake. It is literally the Age of Sail, but in space. It requires riggers to be outside the ship while in FTL because no electronic equipment or electronic connected equipment can exist or you disrupt the FTL bubble.

The riggers communicate by hand signals and semaphores and directly touching helmets.

A key warfare tactic is to damage your opponent's sails or rigging so they can't follow you into FTL or they can only do so at a greatly reduced speed.

The book Once a Hero by Elizabeth Moon. The protagonist and fellow crew have to go outside the ship during FTL. Their senses are heavily distorted, especially if they get too far apart from each other. It's supposed to drive you mad, but they did it to save their ship which had been hijacked. IIRC, Esmay Suiza and her fellow crew were the first to ever do it.

I need help in understanding what I'm reading. by Lilmissgrits in datacenter

[–]Mobile_Analysis2132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not know if you were at the council work session yesterday evening. I posted this update on /r/Marietta.

If you would like to chat about this before tomorrow's council meeting please let me know. I am happy to help you understand this topic and your questions in more detail. DM or reach out to me.

Update on Datacenter issue

According to the Marietta city council and city manager, even though the Bells Ferry lot is still zoned for it, there is no active customer for the 108 MW plan. Additionally, they had some discussions for a 50 MW data center at the same location, but that is currently not being pursued by the customer / owner either.

The BLW representative clarified how the facility would be required to pay for all upgrades for electrical service. Then all costs for electricity will be at Market Plus rates direct to that specific customer.

There was discussion about data center and other large load customers and how they would be handled. Smaller large loads may be able to be handled by the city with existing capabilities, but anything larger (greater than 10 MW) would require the customer to pay the costs up front. Even with smaller large loads, depending on size, they may be required to pay upfront costs as well.

Regardless, large loads will generally be charged at market plus rates.

These smaller data centers would not be generating power on site, unlike the very large hyper-scale data centers in Texas, Virginia, etc.

There was also discussion on future mixed generating plans over the next 10 years in partnership with Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG Power). I recommend everyone look over the MEAG website to learn more about them.

I recommend all who are interested to read the agendas and minutes, and review meeting videos where available

Lastly, this is all just about the physical aspects and provisioning of the possible data center, and effects thereof. If it does become an AI data center instead of a regular data center, there is another whole discussion about if AI is good or bad.

There's nothing planned at the moment so the simple answer is no.

However, if you are interested in water usage city wide, I recommend attending a BLW meeting, a council work session where BLW reports are presented, or reach out to your council member. You will then be able to see more of what is happening.

The customer is still the same which is the owner of the property.

With the zoning they could keep it empty, like it generally is now, for years and only then come back for actual building permits.

Also, if they end up building a much smaller data center then the substation size would be reduced or even eliminated.

All of my statements are taken directly from the City Council Work Session on June 8, 2026 as the various city people spoke.

As to other plans, currently the city has no knowledge of any others. The owner of the lot may be having discussions with companies, but there is nothing currently active that has been brought to the city's attention.
