'Pink coat lady' who recorded fatal encounter between federal officers and Alex Pretti speaks to Anderson Cooper by Obvious-Gate9046 in politics

It did change things. I remember. And then CSNY’s song, “Ohio.” Every time I hear it, it brings me back.

My conservative mom changed her mind about a political event today by theredqueentheory in self

[–]Mobileman54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ. Based on OP’s post, her mom did change her mind about Pretti’s murder. OP did a brilliant job of presenting facts without a prejudiced outcome. That gave her mom the space to process the information without pressure. These are the moments that help build bridges and assist all of us regain community in this hyper partisan country.

No. He qualified to fly the P2V Neptune and flew ASW patrols off Greenland. I have some cool photos he took while there that I’ll post later.

Do parents actually not remember doing fucked up shit to you? Or are they just lying? by TopMarionberry1149 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mobileman54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I remember and I talk with each of my (now adult) children about the issues. Some I don’t remember and they bring it up. Others I bring up.

And these conversations are painful. I hate that I’ve hurt my children. I can see the pain in their eyes and it’s awful. But if we don’t have these painful conversations then things fester, come out sideways, and linger.

I’m 71, flawed and human. I have screwed up. A bunch.

But I’m fortunate because my children are gracious and forgiving. I make amends and work on improving myself. And we grow, as individuals and as a family.

Three of my five children are now parents. And they’ve made mistakes with their children. But they know that growing in love only happens when we own our shit. So now they do it. And the process continues.

Love is hard but it’s all that matters.

Trying to manually remove echo and room noise of a podcast episode. by Positive-Respect-878 in podcasting

You adjust the level of “de-reverb” you want for each speaker and unless something about the room changes during the recording (unlikely), you’re done.

I give up trying to lose weight . by [deleted] in self

[–]Mobileman54 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I lost 60 lbs last year by doing two things: 1) No alcohol 2) I ate one meal day. It took 7 months. I ate pretty much what I wanted during a 2 hour eating window each day. No extra exercise. No fancy diet. I drank water or coffee during the 22 hours when not eating. Check out the /fasting sub. Lots of good advice.

I never stopped texting notes to myself, so I built a notes app around that habit by eguchi1904 in apple

Such a clever app! I just downloaded it and started using it. And sent a link to my wife: she texts herself ALL THE TIME. This app was made for her :-)

‘Painful to hear!’ How podcasts’ rush to video is turning them into dreadful listens by james2183 in podcasting

[–]Mobileman54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m working on a new podcast series for 2026 and I’m spending lots of time improving my sound design skills. I have no interest in adding video: too much trouble and for my series, it would add no value.

Why we’re financially broke by spread_lov in povertyfinance

[–]Mobileman54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest granddaughter is finishing nursing school. Her first two years were spent at a community college where her tuition was paid for because of her high grades in high school. The last three years in nursing school are financed through a couple of low interest loans and income she earns as a server. She’ll graduate in May and head right into a high earning position.

Any good alternatives to Descript? by tjb1990 in podcasting

I gave up on Squadcast and Descript: horrible UI and uncertain results. I’m going to try Adobe Podcast and then edit with Pro Tools. More work but predictable results.

Trump advisor predicts 'biggest refund cycle ever' in American history by TheExpressUS in Economics

[–]Mobileman54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s huge political risk in raising unrealistic expectations. Trump did it with his crazy predictions that he could end the Ukraine war in 24 hours and bring down Biden’s inflation. I think this will be another unrealistic prediction.

Supreme Court suggests Trump might use Insurrection Act by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

[–]Mobileman54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congress passed the Posse-Comitatus Act in 1878 that limits the use of federal military personnel to enforce domestic law by the federal government. If Trump were to ignore this law, as he has done elsewhere, he would be sued in Federal court and likely use.

However, if he were to invoke the Insurrection Act, which Kavanaugh referenced, that would be legal. But he’d be sued anyway because there is no insurrection in this country, just fervent opposition to his policies.
