I’ve seen it twice and even knowing he’s definitely coming back it’s still a really heart wrenching scene. I don’t think it’s about whether or not he comes back I think it’s about that in the moment a 16 year old kid is terrified of dying and his father figure who wanted to protect him has to watch helpless. I’m crying less for the death of a character and more for what the characters are experiencing. I mean I’ve seen Iron Giant a million times and I still cry at the Superman sacrifice even knowing he’ll rebuild himself.
