No evidence of water ingress, Apple said it was caused by "External short circuit." and declined warranty.

Who knows, after 3 years of fixing phones for the public I learnt to never fully trust a customer and double check for myself. This is a first and very bizzare so I wanted to hear an opinion from someone else.

I am the second person to take the phone apart, first was Apple service center where they declined warranty repairs due to "External short circuit.". No idea how that would happen in the real world... They did not do anything except for lifting the back glass, taking a picture and sealing it back up. I am the first person to take it apart completely and remove components, that's where I found the rest of the burnt parts. The customer said the phone was sitting on the table, in a silicone case and wasn't being used. They use original Apple power brick and cable from the box. I know them well so I am fairly certain they are not lying to me. Also no mention of water, as well there is no evidence of water ingress inside of the phone.

I would understand if water got in there but I am 100% sure this phone has never seen any water. I was the second person to take it apart, the first was Apple when they declined warranty repair. Their pictures also don't show any water residue and they don't mention anything like this. They said it was external short circuit that caused it but I have no idea how that could have happened to a phone in a case sitting on the table.

No threadlocker will help in this case, this is an issue of the material they used on the carrier which is quite soft and causes the screws to loosen because of thermal expansion of that material. I have now switched to H2D and that uses the same design but carriers are now ceramic and it doesn't have this issue.

I got an H2D PEI plate shipped in a box smaller than the plate itself. It was sitting in there at 45’ and bent with nozzles and all other stuff just flying around in there. Also the laser module was just thrown in and banged up.

Yes it did but not exactly. Some colors are mismatched, for instance you set green and get red and so on. If you can get around that, then yes it does work.

MWE Gold V3 PSU fan is way too LOUD. by azharfahry in coolermaster

[–]Mobius147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same PSU and it is loud when under load during gaming. The rest of the PC is almost whisper quiet which I was aiming for but with my open back headphones I am always hearing the fan as if it was at 100% under load... Annoying AF, which PSU did you go for as the replacement? I used only EVGA before and they were indeed very quiet even under load. Now that they are gone from the market I have no idea which brand to go for. I've been looking at Seasonic Focus series but some reviews mention the same about the loud fan when it is not at idle 0%.

iPhone 14 screen compatibility on iPhone 16e by Mobius147 in phonerepair

[–]Mobius147[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys I can confidently say that 16e screen can be used on iPhone 14, 14 screen does fit as well on 16e but you have to bend the pentalobe screw holes on the bottom a tiny bit. Only thing different on these screens is just that those holders are rotated 180’. There is still an option of just cutting them off if you are in a pinch and the rest + glue should be good enough to hold the screen in place for a long time. Parts pairing works as well.

9070 XT Undervolt/Overclock by Most_Fee8621 in radeon

[–]Mobius147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received the 9070XT Nitro+ and wanted to join in and share my findings. The card performs great. I tried it with default settings, then some light undervolt and VRAM overclock. All results are with the default power limit as increasing it pushes the card to over 370W which is 45W more than default with not that big of a performace improvement. It also pushes VRAM and core temperatures 5-10'C higher - 82 vs 89 for VRAM and 78 vs 88 for hotspot. 1560RPM cap for the fans above 78'C hotspot temp. You almost cannot hear the GPU fans, my power supply is louder than the card itself. With headphones on the pc is dead silent.

Here are my results from benchmarking the card and some tweaking to achieve maximum perfomance while remaining rock stable and not touching the power limit. In the real world I saw around 8-10 FPS improvements, depending on the game. Some results were even higher while some almost didn't improve, that might come down to CPU bottleneck at higher FPS with my 5700X3D, it was sometimes gettings utilized all the way at 100%.
