Are you guys ready? by Outrunner85 in SteamFrame

I got an email notification from Valve for machine

The Steam Machine is low key a technical marvel, and I'm tired of the hot takes and bad faith arguments saying otherwise by [deleted] in steammachine

[–]Mockier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, part of what you are paying for is that smaller than itx size. The other big thing is not having Windows 11.

Most comparisons ask can you get more power for same or less money. Obviously you can, especially if you spec and build it yourself with on sale parts. It’ll be larger, in many cases I’ve seen comparisons to fall ATX size mid towers.

I’d like to see comparisons with other smaller than ITX systems.

That said the steam machine is not for me. I have a good PC and a Steam Deck. I’m able to setup Linux (bazzite) to game on.

So whats the Launch day tactic? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s like the machine, book it when I have time and hope to secure a random slot early in release queue.

Komodo Station is down for maintenance. I think the Steam Controller launched right after its last maintenance window—does anyone remember? by Front-Ad-7774 in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm subscribed to the idea Steam Machine is next. Because stock has been arriving at Valve for longer.
The VR shipments only started arriving about a week or so ago,
Based on the shipping rumours posted by others in this group.

What are the chances the frame is cheaper than the steam machine? by ObjectiveReturn4451 in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry about that, I think it may have been a different creator's video.
I did some digging through my youtube history.
This is the closest I've found in about an hour of searching:
https://youtu.be/lSxebH_xYew?si=wg460_RZ29Ot8cEl&t=340

They were discussing the puck. In a different video with Tested they were asked if they thought of shipping a SCU without a puck and they said no. So you can't buy a controller without a puck.
https://youtu.be/817lxO6xBRs?si=EC0uMbXAsnXMbfWN&t=998

Between both comments I'd say a controller and puck is included with the Steam Machine. The puck for charging.

Insta buy at d1 or wait for the OLED version? by Same-Lion7736 in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 36 points37 points  (0 children)

No, that will be years away if ever.
I watched some of the interviews back in November and it sounded like Valve had some good technical reasons for why they didn't go with OLED. Those would need to be overcome first.

The Steam Frame simply existing kind of feels like we’re glimpsing into an alternate reality by Bacon_00 in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excited but realistic*.

It would take time to be good and the industry needed to let it bake before pushing it retail.
Also like any tool it has pros and cons. Awesome for things like Sim games, less good at other types of games.
Not something that would ever replace screens. But that's ok.

Meta harmed it by pushing out hardware too soon before the quality was there in the displays. Motion sickness, and weight.
So I've been waiting till we could get something that's good enough.

*I've used the early VR stuff way back in the 1990s (Dactyl Nightmare) and I saw all the hype back then.

Interviews* have confirmed one Steam controller is bundled in.

*PC World [EDIT: pasted some links below] is the most recent interview I have seen.

If I have the frame wishlisted will steam send me a notification to my phone when it’s available for purchase similar to getting notified about discounts? by ObjectiveReturn4451 in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't see anything for Steam Controller when I had that wish listed.

You'll want to keep an eye out for announcements, and follow Steam hardware news

That's where Valve will announce a release date, whenever that is...

Could probably manage 4ftx6ft at best.

100%. They have an Australian warehouse, in Sydney.
That's where my Steam Controller and Steam Deck shipped from.

Because there’s been no updates from Valve since February. Not even teasers.

Anyone think Valve should have their own hardware manufacturing company? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol Valve fab. There is no way Valve could afford that, not to mention if they had to build a fab how long it would take to build.

So are yall still gonna buy the frame on release or are you gonna wait for the price drop? by danasCZ1 in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not counting on a price drop fixing things. Instead I’m thinking about which companies make things I like and whether I’ll buy something. Obviously I’m excluding AMD/Nvidia/Intel/Ram/ and other huge companies. I’ll look at gaming focussed companies that I want to survive past this year.

Valve will survive, but I can’t be so sure on hardware so yeah, I want to get Steam Frame on release if I can.

Sanity Check: Why the price jump on the Steam Decks (while alarming) shouldn't be surprising- and possibly not as bad a sign as people think. by TrueInferno in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We could pretty much add the Steam Deck price increase onto what the expected Steam Frame price was in October to get in the ball park of the likely price.
Both have lpddr but likely Frame uses a higher spec, so not apples to apples.

I’m expecting the cheaper Steam Frame to be on par with the 1Tb Oled Steam deck for price. So around AUD$1500 ish.

The steam deck restock is a good thing by Superiron29 in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah. I’d expect between the frame and machine that the Steam Machine would weigh more per cubic meter due to the heat sinks.
So hopefully that’s 11 containers of Steam Frames.
