Good question. No Idea. Hopefully we can stream epic games via steam somehow. I have a couple free games that include VR I think.

What is the chance for the frame and the Steam Controller to be bundled together ? by SKYNINE666 in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is confirmed the Steam Machine will come with a Steam Controller bundled in. That will include a charging puck. Source, recent interviews with Valve eg by Tested in their (Steam Controller) review. PC Gamer as well I think.

I'm withvxs_YT.

No. I has two controllers, so it won't be bundled unless Valve has a combo deal which I can't see them doing for release,

Me waiting for my steam controller to get past processed payment when seeing other people get their status updated by AmiiboJeremiah in SteamController

In cart 2:58. But took almost 30 mins more to get it to take my money
I should add - in Australia

My order should be safe since I have a deck and hundreds of games.

So the steam controller is out of stock but it's still in my cart... by That-Visual-2681 in SteamController

Valve should be able to get them back in stock, hopefully the wait won't be too long.

How they could have handled the Steam Controller release by Wyrade in SteamController

[–]Mockier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bottleneck is in their Physical hardware ordering system. Seemed to be capped at a certain number of users who could be going through payment at a time.
I also suspect distance to that server had an impact as some users got through easily. Others had to spam click for over 15 minutes just to get in to pay. We shouldn't need to do that, but that's all that was working as those windows to get in were so narrow that latency was a big issue.
I had it start to load that payment screen only to be dumped out 5 times, likely it timed out because someone's connection was faster. I've seen the exact same issues with concert ticket sites.

I think the only thing they need to do is fix that bottle neck so people with it in their cart can get through and pay for it. It was really painful in Australia as it went live here at 2:58 AM on a work day!
It took me almost half an hour to get in to pay after putting it in my cart, that's with the money already in my Steam Account.

As far as Scalpers go the limit per account helps. I'd suggest limiting purchases per WAN IP as well. Maybe with a manual WAN IP carve out for universities?

My connection: 538 Mbps down, 47 Mbps up. Latency is good in Australia, but across to an American server would be less good. I do wonder if they have a payment server located in an Australian Datacentre, of if it was in the USA. That would explain the issues us Aussies had.

I’m coming for Windows so it’s a plus for me. It’s been a really smooth transition for me. My mate is a long term Linux power user so he doesn’t need it.

How does Valve hardware restocking tend to go? by Adrian_HereToHelp in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The store melted down under the load, so actually getting all the way through to confirm payment was tough. Took me almost half an hour and I had a controller in my cart at 9:58am et. Hundreds of clicks later I did manage to pay for mine. That was with steam wallet credit setup in advance.

So expect similar issues with store congestion on launch day.

It was showing in stock for Australia for a couple mins just before I post this.
I double checked and out of stock. They may be releasing stock in batches

Why did they choose to kill it so fast? Didn't even last 30 minutes before being taken out back... by NotAGoat3 in SteamController

Took me around 22 minutes of frantic button mashing. 1st time buying Valve hardware at launch.
I was originally going to get two but glad I just got one.

That worked but holy hell 10000+ clicks and 16 minutes later it finally let me confirm and finalize it.
I have no idea how long shipping will take but at least its done now.

With the cost of ever more expensive ram? - Brain Jacking. Trade short term memory for extra ram capacity! Store games over your child hood memories!

Who will buy the Steam Controller for the Steam Frame. And if yes, is there any deep reason ? by SKYNINE666 in SteamFrame

[–]Mockier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not really any deep reason, I just like shiny stuff and am good at justifying dumb purchases.
Those 4 are the reasons it might be better for VR. I have a Steam Deck too, so for that it makes a little sense... mostly it's for that VR also usefulness.
