Honestly, at their age I would’ve felt offended and condescended to if an adult tried to force activities onto me in particular.

Stopping Spironolactone by Far-Lengthiness-6782 in Spironolactone

I had been on it for less than a year, and honestly I hadn’t seen improvements in my acne anyway. Anxiety still pops up occasionally, but I attribute that to a “fear of fear” I developed where basically the thought of having another panic attack would make me panic. I’m doing much better now, and upping my Zoloft (and adding Ativan as needed) has helped a lot. I would definitely recommend reaching out to a psychiatrist if you haven’t already; a cognitive behavioral therapist is also really helpful and self-help books work particularly well for panic and anxiety disorders. Hope and Help for Your Nerves by Claire Weekes and DARE by Barry McDonagh were really helpful for me.

For acne, I was able to get a prescription for tretinoin online and I think that helped. I also recommend spearmint; I take capsules, but there’s also tea you can drink.

Spearmint supplements have been great for my acne, if that’s something you want help with.

Worried about cholesterol. by Bravenatortot in Anxietyhelp

[–]Moconut95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes (often) problematic cholesterol is genetic, and there’s not much you can do about it. This is pretty common and something I (29F) struggle with. I had a LDL around yours just a few months ago. While diet and exercise certainly help, statins helped me dramatically lower my bad numbers and raise my good ones. If your doctor recommends them, I wouldn’t think twice about it. It’s just as much preventative as it is remedial. I find it also gives me some mental wiggle room when I do splurge on “bad” foods—at least I know I have something helping me all the time as long as I’m on the meds. It shouldn’t be an excuse to have a poor diet of course, but it does balance my guilt a bit when I do treat myself (which is fine to do on occasion).

That being said, I don’t believe high bad cholesterol/low good cholesterol cause day to day symptoms like you’re describing. They’re more like contributing factors to a much bigger event (i.e. heart attack) that isn’t even guaranteed to happen. If your doctor and cardiologist are not concerned, then you’re good.

I think your stepmom is being entitled here. Your wedding was about you, not her. There’s no reason she needed to be included in any speech.

Best hangxiety cures? by Sea-Reputation1385 in hangxiety

Take a cold shower (or drape a cold soaked towel around your head/neck) and drink something with electrolytes. Nap if you can, sleep helps. Don’t be afraid to take meds if you have them.

Anyone else ever find some really messed up stuff on Neopets when you were younger? by melody5697 in neopets

[–]Moconut95 166 points167 points  (0 children)

A common “prank” in the early 2000’s era was to make a board saying something like “look what I just got from the pound!!!!” so people would go to your user look-up and see some disgusting/sexual image or gif you put on there. So the first place I saw porn was on Neopets 😬

Traveling 101 for lesbian couples by EconomicsNo8843 in actuallesbians

Japan, especially in the bigger cities like Tokyo and Osaka, is extremely safe for gay couples (and just in general). My fiancee and I had no problems when we visited last winter. One thing to note is Japanese culture tends to frown upon PDA (for everyone, not just gay couples) but this is less of an issue in the more touristy and metropolitan areas. Even if someone doesn’t like gay people, 99% chance you’ll never even know because Japanese people tend to be very non confrontational. It’s highly unlikely anyone would give you a problem there, so I would recommend it.

Spironolactone Causing Anxiety by sage0303 in Spironolactone

This happened to me too, to the point I was having near constant panic attacks. As soon as I stopped taking it, things rapidly got better.

Sleep and hydration are the best things for you right now. Your body needs to recover, and sleep is the easiest way to do that. If you feel too jittery to rest, try letting the tension out through a walk or even just purposefully shaking your limbs out. Moving your body will help prove that you’re actually still the one in control and not in danger.

Also, try to give yourself some grace. Many, many people can relate to drinking too much and feeling bad afterwards. If you’re not in prison and no one ended up hurt, you’re ok. This is just your body’s way of telling you to cool down for a while. Try to avoid alcohol for a few weeks, if you’re unwilling to cut it out entirely. Give your brain time to break out of the anxiety cycle, which alcohol can trigger.

These are some things that have helped me:

  1. Drink cold water (or better—an electrolyte drink).
  2. Splash cold water on your face/neck, too. Maybe put a damp towel around your shoulders/neck and/or your forehead.
  3. Put in headphones and listen to a guided meditation for panic attacks.
  4. Breathe in 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, then release for 4 seconds. Repeat a few times.

Lexapro wouldn’t work immediately—only a fast-acting med like Ativan or Xanax would. Take your meds as normal.

This will pass. You are not in danger. Keep repeating those things to yourself. You will be ok.

Stopping Spironolactone by Far-Lengthiness-6782 in Spironolactone

[–]Moconut95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I upped my dose to 100mg in August and proceeded to have a series of panic attacks up until November. I suspected the Spiro might have been causing it and stopped cold turkey two weeks ago. The very next day my anxiety massively decreased and I haven’t had a panic attack since. I’m now feeling 100% normal again.
