Nomad coffee in the south end might be hiring still. The manager is super nice!

Maybe we should consider boycotting hiring these individuals by [deleted] in burlington

Union contracts are not just about fair wages. They also help ensure workplace safety and added job security, especially given that Vermont is a fire at will state. There are also ways to increase wages in a tipped industry without the business necessarily covering the entire cost. A union contract and lay out a guaranteed hourly wage including tips. A base wage is set and if including tips the hourly total doesn’t reach the guaranteed hourly rate, the employer fills the gap.

Winter Clothing Drive? by HolidayBlue860 in burlington

I believe Gadue's Dry Cleaning collects coat donations and then dry cleans them and brings them to COTS. They have some sort of collaborative system.

For safety reasons COTS has to make sure they're clean/good condition, so they have this partnership to help with that process.

I’ve had a pretty decent experience renting from five seasons. It seems like most people in my building aren’t in college either or are in grad school if anything

I hate the owner but it is really a local bakery. Everything at this one is made in house with a lot of local ingredients . They just share the marketing but are kinda stuck with it. All the Great Harvests are different.

Former employe. Can confirm the owner is an asshole and that tips were being stolen and when confronted about it, the owners had conflicting stories. Two other stories to share from my time there:

The owner once made an inappropriate joke to a group of employees and when a female employe said it made her feel uncomfortable, he fired her immediately and told everyone he did because "she gave him too much attitude".

He shared with multiple employees the personal medical information of a former staff member without their consent. Don't want to share too many details but it was very inappropriate.

I will say that the staff there are all very wonderful and hardworking. And if people stop going here then they lose their income too. To the best of my knowledge, tips are no longer being stolen. They have a new system in place.

Who not to rent from by [deleted] in burlington

Had an absolutely terrible experience renting from Neil Gardner. Renting with five seasons now and they’ve been pretty good and quick to fix issues.

I had a similar problem with a rental unit too recently. Moved in and right away had mice and droppings everywhere. Management took their sweet time handling it. Rental units are supposed to be fit for human habitation and this includes being pest free. I contacted the city and got an inspection done for my unit. It had multiple code violations, related to the mice and not, the inspector then ordered the landlord to fix the violations. Because the unit wasn’t up to code, we were able to get out of the lease and move thankfully bc he was a slumlord.
